Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha told the press on Wednesday (September 2) that Finance Minister Predee Daochai’s resignation will not affect the economy.

The premier added that the position would not be left vacant or projects ignored, adding that the deputy minister can fill the post and he himself, as economic chief, could keep an eye on things.

The premier also said he would promote a suitable person to take over the job.

Prayut also confirmed that Predee had resigned due to genuine health problems.

The new finance minister tendered his resignation on Tuesday, and it was announced on the Royal Gazette the same day. His resignation goes into effect on Wednesday.

In an exclusive interview with Bangkokbiznews under the Nation Group, Predee denied having any conflicts with Deputy Finance Minister Santi Promphat, saying they could work together effectively despite having different approaches and views about management.

Predee is the sixth finance minister to quit soon after taking the position. Pote Sarasin spent just four days as finance minister after elections in 1957.

good comments from our PM Khun Prayut Chan O Cha, I am confident as others are that Prayut will insist and work to ensure Thailand continues to evolve from COVID19.

It already has!

The economy was screwed well before he got there and won't be resolved any time soon.

His holiness the PM as well as being Defence Chief is now Economic Chief and qualified enough to "keep an eye on things"....is there no end to this mans talents.........:whistling:

There seems to be a lot of dissent in the government regarding the handling of the economy. I'm not keeping track but is that now 5 resignations in the last month or 2.

That remains to be seen... investors might view this as a hot potato he didn't want to hold onto.. something hiding in the closet yet to come out?

Watch things start to plummet !

"he himself, as economic chief, could keep an eye on things"

Like the generals in Myanmar kept an eye on things when they took over the country in 1950. And 50 years later it was the poorest in Asia.

Au contraire, mon ami.  Predee’s departure will absolutely affect the Thai economy.  We finally have the Baht headed in the right direction—down.
