U.S. Republicans criticize Pelosi over hair appointment

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Republicans criticized House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday for going to a hair salon in San Francisco in an apparent violation of the city’s coronavirus pandemic regulations, but the Democratic leader said she had been told by the salon the appointment was allowed.

 

Pelosi briefly addressed the issue to reporters in San Francisco, saying, “I take responsibility for falling for a set-up.”

 

Under strict rules to combat the coronavirus pandemic, hair salons in San Francisco were still prohibited from admitting customers on Monday, when Pelosi had her appointment, although salons elsewhere in the state and across much of the country were already open.

 

President Donald Trump and other Republicans seized on a brief video of Pelosi’s appointment, which first aired on the Fox News channel, to accuse Pelosi, the most senior elected Democrat in Washington, of hypocrisy.

 

Trump - who took months to embrace mask-wearing as a way to slow the spread of COVID-19 - used the incident to attack Pelosi, saying on Twitter that she is “constantly lecturing” others.

 

“The Beauty Parlor owner must really dislike Crazy Nancy Pelosi. Turning her in, on tape, is a really big deal,” the president wrote.

An appalling response to getting caught out in corona hypocrite mode. Like a robber blaming the cctv in the store he looted for setting him up. It is unforgivable that she does not offer a full apology for her hypocrisy, a full apology to the poor single mom salon owner who suffered for months under Nancy's (clearly needless) shut down, and maybe a rethink about corona shutdowns. That, or make an official 2 tier system where the dem elites can do what others, the plebs, can't?

She did the best thing anyone can do for a small business, made an appointment, kept the appointment and paid her bill.

 

Perhaps to assuage Illiberal faux outrage the ‘poor single mum salon owner’  should be publicly flogged for accepting appointments.

 

[edit] The hair dresser did a good job, Nancy’s hair looks great, I hope the salon does well out of the free publicity it’s getting.

The business was shuttered, ie closed down. They turned up for her. They are again closed. The owner voiced displeasure.

She did nothing to help the salon.

Nobody cares she got her hair done. The concerns run much deeper. If she is right, and the single mom salon owner tricked and set her up like this, how can Nancy deal with the likes of Russia and China where deceit and subterfuge is the norm? She is in way out of her depth.

 Or she wasn't tricked and set up. She is just a straight hypocrite that has attacked Trump for months over Covid, yet here she is, the chief alarmist herself not wearing a mask to protect those around her in close indoor confinement. Either way it is disastrous PR and she needs to step down today.

On your premise of beeing tricked and taken advantage of I’m sure she’d do better than trump he’s been played big time by the worst the planet has to offer and betrayed our allies at their behest but I digress this is about a high profile woman getting her hair done Nancy be more careful next time don’t give trump any extra distractions please lol

There are a lot of better reasons to fault nasty Nancy Pelosi. #1 is breaking her own rule about primaring Dem incumbents. It blew up in her face with Markey over Kennedy. Next round AOC & friends need to line up a popular west coast progressive to take out moneybags Nancy in her 2022 primary. As for Trump, with nearly 190k American dead from COVID on his watch just maybe he should <deleted> about hair salons.

trump has been a complete disaster for US citizens in mitigation for Covid. trump's ongoing slow crash of mental faculties doesn't help, in fact he should resign before causing further damage to the Office of the President of the USA and the nation.

After all it should be her that is charged for being open & taking appointments when it wasn't allowed. Yes, I do understand the embarrassment factor for Nancy will take the limelight, but breaking the law is breaking the law. 

 

Does seem like an odd action/risk to take by the owner if it was indeed a 'setup'.

Trump's inept and often absent leadership has lead to over 100,000 needless American deaths - with no end in sight. No appolgy, no remorse and instead he proclaims 'mission success'.

These political threads are funny.  Everyone is so passionate about this, when you really should be outside getting some exercise and doing something.  No wonder why so many people are unhealthy and are afraid of covid.
