Sanook reported that Wingspan Service Co Ltd - a subsidiary of THAI Airways - has announced that it is cutting 2,600 jobs.

The layoffs are a result of the severe downtown in the airline industry due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The company is a supplier of workers and due to the fact that the airline industry is not hiring at the moment the redundancies were inevitable and necessary, said the company.

Sanook also reported that compensation packages for staff at the beleaguered company would also have to wait.

The company asked for up to a year to pay off staff who were made redundant from September 1st.

You do have to feel for these folks and there families.  The economy keeps taking a whack and the government thinks one time bail out payments that may occur more than once at a minimum are going to keep the country operational.  The loss of jobs just does not affect these families but all those they also supported with there paychecks.  Yet the Baht just keeps getting stronger and stronger.  My Exchange rate on the Monthly transfer in USD to my bank this month was at 30.95.  A net loss to me of 9,000 baht over the last months transfer.

I hope the labour ministry get wind of this, they will demand immediate payment as required by the law. Thai companies can't decide when they will pay, it's already dictated clearly by the law.

THAI was/is a company bloated to brim, way too many personal both in the air and on the ground with strong union to back the up so now, hopefully when the bubble has burst this covid business will make the new THAI leaner and more profitable...

Sure that the now former employees are stuffed full of cash and can wait a year to get there severance pay.  Yes that is sarcasm at its finest. WTH do these people need to do to get some satisfaction.  First they are terminated because of the need to cut losses, then they are slapped in the face with being told they need to wait a year to be paid there severance pay.  Yes you have got to love Thailand.  Sure to be suicides and rampant crime increasing as we move forward.

Especially that they have hesitation nor concern about breaking serious laws.

This wingspan company is not needed, as it only supplied workers, that are also not

needed, so what is the surprise that this company is down sizing before it quits

being a company that is not needed.  The workers should not be surprised at all that

their time in this company was limited. Bye.

Geezer

I wonder who set this company up?

Was it folks already employed in TG who should have getting on achieving the outputs expected from their main TG job?
