Help please! Send 30 kgs of child clothes by boat

Hi all

one of my best friends has a young child with a Thai lady living and working in Rayong

he is now stuck in France because of the covid restrictions and he doesn't know

when he will be able to comeback (He can't afford the actual requirments for

flights, quarantine and so on)

He has collected with friends and family more than 30 kilos of clothes for her child

and he would want to send the lot to the mother in Thailand.

Of course the cost with post office\air transport is too expensive

Does someone on the forum knows how much it costs and how does it works for a

transport by boat (Even if it takes more than 1 month for the travel it's not a problem) ?

Is it possible to find a company taking the clothes from Paris and deliver the lot in Rayong?

The customs are a problem? (It's second hands clothes, so no bills, but it's well-know original brands)

Thank you in advance for any help

Years ago I looked into sending a package by boat thinking it could be much cheaper. It is, when you have a container full. Has he asked the price of sending a much more reasonable weight by post ? Babies generally, especially in hot countries, don’t need many clothes. He should have a lady ( a mother) to sort out with him what to send , find out the weight and size of baby too. Then ask the postal price.,I’m sure 4/5 kilos would suffice. 30:kgs sounds extreme. Baby clothes in tescos Big C are very cheap.  2000baht should cover all extras.

Thank you for your answer.

The baby is only 9 months now, but the clothes he has collected cover all ages

untill 5\6 years old. so his project was to send all in one time and then don't bother

to buy clothes (Or only few) for the 5 next years.

I think it's possible to share a small part of a container

but i am not sure about the price, However the price asked

by the post office was huge, so he is trying to find and alternative option.

Do speak to a specialist shipper and freight clearer, 30kg sharing a corner of a container shouldn't really be punitive if there's no requirement for express delivery.

BUT

Clothes, even used ones seem to attract the customs chaps like a magnet and a number of members (or at least the recipients of their gifts) have run foul of silly duties plus VAT (which would be expected anyway).

Thank you for the information

i wasn't aware that there are a VAT on second hand clothes

my understanding have always been it was applied only to new stuff

and yes the customs taxes are also a concern.

Hi again, he’s probably going to return to Thailand in the near future ? Next time he leaves he should take a case with him.most airlines allow 23 kgs and 7 kg carry on.,Send just a few kgs by post needed for the next 6 months.

Yes it will be the plan ''B'' if the ship transportation isn't possible
