TAT teams with Alipay, Fliggy to offer Chinese expats in Thailand exclusive deals as part of domestic tourism push

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in partnership with Alipay and Fliggy, has launched a campaign to encourage Chinese expats living in Thailand to travel domestically, as it banks on domestic tourism to jumpstart the industry’s recovery amid the pandemic.

Run from August 24 to December 31, 2020, the campaign enables Chinese expats who live in Thailand and hold an Alipay account to enjoy exclusive deals offered by participating hotels when booking a domestic trip through Fliggy.

Alipay is a mobile payment platform operated by the Ant Group, Alibaba Group’s fintech arm; while Fliggy is Alibaba’s online travel platform.

Plus a cattle prod to defend their position at the prawn tray against the 400 other countrymen stampeding towards it.

I suspect this scheme is really just a very clever ruse by the authorities here to track-down undocumented and illegal-entry Chinese.

Numerous reports of late catching many along the Burmese border - some must be getting through.

My working theory is: this is what started the current outbreak (as was suspected to be the case in the recent Vietnamese outbreak).

So they get $50 in "coupons", but the hotels will know this and increase prices accordingly.

Not to be sniffed at.

It sort of is a bit racist only giving the Chinese a bone, but there is no way I would support or use Commie Jack's Alibaba pay platform or any China or Chinese platform even if it was open to all of us. Not anti Chinese people but I am really anti Chinese government and anyone who supports and backs that government. All for Hong Kong and Taiwan only!

So a Chinese payment company is promoting Chinese travel agency for Chinese. Welcome to Chailand.

Yes I know about them and Netiwit Chotiphatphaisalas. I just was talking with my son and daughter this morning as we are all boycotting the movie Mulan. We actually see almost every movie worth a look, even last weekend we all saw Tenet, but forget Mulan. The nerve of the Chinese actress who got American citizenship to give support to China about Hong Kong..

In America, BLM leftists would call this racist.  And the courts would judge this discriminative.

First you let them in in hordes of millions to destroy everything, not only with theit Virus.

Now you want them to rebuilt it ?

My Thai builder was just telling me about bus-loads of Chinese tourists he's seen arriving at several hotels in Pattaya. He didn't think they were Thai-Chinese, so unless the supreme leader has done something that's not been made public, they must be these "Chinese expats".

Dizzy, stop the spinning.lol

I have no idea whether this is a good move but it is worth trying ( although I am sure these "new" partners get their share)  and it is up to the expats living in Thailand to take this opportunity or not but...

I am surprised that some of the posters think that the Chinese community is small. I have no numbers to back it up, but I am pretty sure that the Chinese (expat) community like the Indian one ( as mentioned by one poster above) are quite big and they should not be neglected.

This being said, why stopping at this Community and  not target all the expats wherever they come from. I reckon that I would not be part of it as, from what I have seen, discounts are not noticeable and I would rather pay full amount and get perks through my usual channels.

The number of chinese expats eclipses the number of all farang expats combined.

These two should do the Thai people a favor and resign!  They are just taking up space put them in the trash with the rest and I'm being very kind at the moment!

I must of been running in the wrong circles in Thailand. Met ton's of expats, but I cannot remember one Chinese expat.

There are at least a dozen Chinese "expat" families many with kids in school on our moo baan alone. Most have "bought" their own homes and settled in Thailand. Some of the schools have more than 30% Chinese students.

There are thousands of Chinese expats in Thailand.

Yes, kowtow to the country that intentionally poisoned the world!  The USA was the target, everyone else is just collateral damage!

Allow retirees to return home, I'll gladly make domestic trips all over the country assisting in their tourism recovery !!
