Two Chinese nationals have reportedly escaped from a hotel in Phnom Penh during their quarantine. Ministry of Health spokeswoman Or Vandine said the two men were placed in a centre upon their arrival at the Phnom Penh International Airport on September 8.

However, she said they fled the hotel quarantine centre on Wednesday afternoon while awaiting COVID-19 test results. The men were identified as Jiang Jiajie, 23 and Zhu Jun 32, who both arrived in Cambodia at 11am on September 8 before being quarantined at a designated hotel in Phnom Penh.

Vandine said the authorities are still looking for the duo – noting that although they tested negative for the virus, they are still required to undergo mandatory quarantine. On August 30, The Minister of Health Mam Bun Heng requested that capital-provincial governors deploy security forces and monitor activities outside quarantine centres.

Those will never be found, as soon they enter a casino its like being in an embassy.

The Cambodian authorities are extremely good at tracking people down. My bet is on them (the authorities).

So we can just fly there and escape the quarantine for a visa run ?

Hardly.

1. No direct flights between Thailand and Cambodia now (and land borders closed). You'd have to do an expensive and time consuming routing via a third country...on flights that are often cancelled and with some countries not allowing transit passengers.

2. No tourist visas being issued for Cambodia. You'd have to be able to get a non-tourist visa from Camb Embassy.

3. On arrival you have to pay a $2,000 deposit, undergo testing and then 14 days quarantine.

4. To come back to Thailand you would then have to meet the requirements for a Certificate of Entry (currentl;y impossible for retirees not married to a Thai or holding an elite visa).
