Our only issue is why the Thai gov't doesn't also love us for just being ourselves. I'm talkin' free perpetual visas & beer, for a start, like all them much better farang-lovin' countries offer! Yeah.

About 99% of your posts try to paint anybody who complains as some lowlife alcoholic scumbag that wants everything for free.  Even when the thread started has no relevance to your comment (such as the guy who started a thread about getting grey hairs).  But if it helps you to boost your “big star” ego...well....that says more about you and the “k”lassy kind of person that you are.

Is this the first time we have heard something like this said? Is this an actual acknowledgment that we are of value? Is he saying we are not terrible pests? That we are not corrupting society? Is he somehow, obtusely admitting that the many billions of baht we bring in, is of value?

How about an apology for the racist ranting and deplorable xenophobia? How about if he sends a message to the toxic folks at immigration?

No. There are quite a few of us around. You are not alone.

Me too.

I do believe so...albeit begrudgingly said.

Definitely not.  We are still pests...just pests with outside money.

“Outside money is money that is not a liability for anyone "inside" the economy.“

Western foreigners will always be seen as the corrupters of sheeple everywhere.

He will need to break out a calculator to answer that one.

Thailand's minister for tourism and sports said that expats living and working in Thailand were an important target to help with stimulating the domestic tourism market, post Covid-19.

Only been 5 months in coming... now were important because Thais are not "Big spenders" !!

i don't ask for any recognition but i should get a medal for my selfless efforts.

i think i should get a medal like a pair of parachute wings.

only the medal is like a bed with two bananas on each side instead of wings. and two girls sitting on the bed wrapped in towels holding new iPhones, new breast implants and braces.

Another delusional speech by a government hack! After treating expats like doggy do they now want us to hand over money. Fuggedit Somchai. I ain't spending a satang beyond what is essential for survival, no matter how much you try to kiss my asp!

Pipat Ratchakitprakan said that there were about two and a half million foreigners with work permits in Thailand and of these there were 155,193 "skilled workers".

What about us lazy bums who don’t work?  I just spent 3 weeks at DusitD2.  Show me some love.

Every time there's some discussion of expats, Thais (both government and private sector) always talk as though "expat" is synonymous with "work permit holder" - even many of the "Thai resident" discounts for hotels specify in the fine print that you need to show a work permit in order to get the benefit (here three months with WP = resident, here ten years without WP = nonresident).

I don't know whether this is due to ignorance of the fact that there are over 70,000 foreign retirees here (and tens of thousands more with family-related extensions), or whether they assume that non-working people don't have money, but it's irritating in either case.

Dusit’s fine print for their “Thai resident discount” states either a work permit or ID (drivers license etc)...but when I got there and asked if they needed to see it, they told me not to worry about it.  I think that the private sector will welcome any warm body with some money to spend.  The government on the other hand...

Of course we get to hear about the high salaries of the expats working here when they boast about them on TVF (either directly, or by putting others down) but what it boils down to is that said expats don’t have time to travel as they’re well....working.  The same goes for the Thais.  On the weekend at Dusit, the parking area would be full.  (Granted, it only fit about a dozen cars) Come Sunday night, maybe 2 or 3.  Some weekdays I wouldn’t have been surprised to find out that I was the only person in the whole hotel.

Maybe the Thais will adopt a formal system of ranking expats like their Chinese cousins do in China. I'm going for Farang Tier 1

Is that right. maybe he can get  together with the chief of Immigration and find a way to make things a Little Easier for the  Expats and Long term Stayers in thailand.

The minister of tourism does not speak of retired, only of foreign workers and students (nomad working)

Don't think we are specials, nothing has changed

Next time you take a break from laughing you could study the difference between your and you're.

And explain how "everyone" whinges and is a drunken bar beer addict. Except you of course.

And 99% of your posts, as the one I referenced, involve some kind of whinge, assertion of farang being unloved (which I correctly identified as your shtick in the grey hairs post), finger pointing, and claim for the righting of some imagined "injustice." Which, we now learn, is what you regard as "classy." Yeah, time to man up and find a new shtick, as noted.

Poking fun at our whingers and pompous know-it-alls is great source of amusement, true.????
