The Minister of Tourism and Sports report that in the last 6 months, tourism increased by over 4 percent, with revenues increasing by 150 billion baht.

Minister of Tourism and Sports Suwit Yothmanee (สุวิทย์ ยอดมณ) revealed that excellent cooperation from all public and private tourism agencies has resulted in a successful tourism season for Thailand, with a tourism increase of 4.57 percent, and a revenue increase of 11 percent over the last 6 months.

Mr. Suwit said that more than 150 billion baht was earned during this period, with tourism markets for Europe, Oceania, South Asia, South Africa, and the Middle East growing by 30.21 percent. The Minister of Tourism and Sports said that in the next 6 months, tourism operations will focus on quality, not quantity, with emphasis on service, convenience, and satisfying accommodations.

JR Texas: This has to be a total fabrication as it does not reflect the reality on the ground. Beware of "official" statistics.

A 150 Billion spent by maybe 7 million tourists over the last 6 months quates to just over 20k each.

Is this the 'quality' tourist they keep talking about?

Well, the report might be -partly- true, but the fact that NOTHING is mentioned in the report, above, about ANOTHER report says it all:

-Asian- tourists stay away from Thailand: and fell by 7.3%.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...=115829&hl=

But, since this is a mainly Farang Forum, I suppose only few people care about "Asian tourists stay away".... :D

Note:

East Asian tourists count for some 50% of TOTAL THAI TOURISM !

Not one word about this decline in the report above... :o strange.

Double the national park entry fee to 800 baht and then sit back and count the tourist spending increase.
