Bizarre Problem With Internet..('losing' Net Sites)

Recommended Posts

I have been getting more and more frustrated that a high percentage of sites are coming up as "Page cannot be displayed". I thought it was a problem only I was having until i read this thread here. I made a thread on the chiang mai forum: link but seeing as its a comp question, im posting another link here to see if i get more response.

Seems this problem is happening to a few people.

Its not a runtime error, or slow, its instant.

Sites that were working fine an hour ago..have suddenly stopped working.

Any ideas what this is, and how to sort it?

You are not the only one facing these problems, me too also having such irritating blockade imposed by local ict.

yes, was a dns problem! Solved, and working. :o

Now open that page and switch to opendns. Much more reliable than a Thai ISP's dns.

So what did you do to fix your dns?

Looking at their site, for open dns, it seems they cache all the sites, it doesn't seem they do anything else different. Am I wrong? And the suggestion that OP switch to a different DNS pair? How would he have any control over that?

signed,

curious

well just looked at my dns settings, and I am already using open dns , haha

I want to thank cdnvic and Phill C. , I was able to solve the problem by switching the DNS.

Since eek didn't explain how he solved the problem (bad baaaaad boy :D ), here's how you do it:

This is for the XP Op.Sys. (you can find instruction for other sys @ opendns.com )

-Select Control Panel from the Start menu.

-Click Network Connections from the Control Panel choices.

-Choose your internet connection from the Network Connections window.

-Click Properties button.

-Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.

-Click the radio button Use the following DNS server addresses and type in OpenDNS addresses in the Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server fields, then click OK.(Please write down your current DNS settings before switching to OpenDNS, in case you want to return to your old settings for any reason.

Preferred DNS server address for Open DNS is:

208.67.222.222

Alternate DNS server address for Open DNS is:

208.67.220.220 )

-Restart your computer.

Works perfectly here, thanks again. :D:o
