Kanye West took to Twitter on Sunday to share his vision about what record deals should look like going forward amid his own ongoing legal battle to obtain rights to his music.

In a series of tweets titled 'NEW RECORDING AND PUBLISHING DEAL GUIDELINES,' the rapper listed seven guidelines that labels should follow.

The first guideline, according to West, is that the 'artist owns the copyright in the recordings and songs and leases them to the record label / publisher for a limited term'.

West then shared that the 'record label / publisher is a service provider that receives a share of the income for a limited term. The split can be 80/20 in the artists favor'.

yeah, the real artists gets little on the deal... specially in the old days, with publishers, music shops (that doubled the price or more) ...

but now, you can produce everything yourself & publish it ...

but music is mostly garbage these days

Right! They should also front 80% of the recording cost, the marketing and the radio licensing then. Say what? You don’t even have the money to pay for the recording time in a studio? Well, such a shame!

Having said that, artists are definitely underpaid and that most definitely needs to improve, unless record labels want to die out.

Home recording equipment gets better and better and with apple and amazon music YouTube, SoundCloud etc. the channels to release your music without the help pof a record label are definitely in place.
