Five asymptomatic cases test positive for Covid-19 in quarantine

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported five new confirmed cases in state quarantine over a 24-hour period on Tuesday (September 22).

 

All five cases were asymptomatic.

 

The patients included a family of three – 7-month-old child, 30-year-old mother and 36-year-old father – who tested positive on Saturday. They had arrived from India on September 16 and gone into alternative state quarantine in Bangkok.

 

The fourth was a 62-year-old Indian businessman who arrived in Bangkok on September 16 and went into alternative state quarantine.

 

The fifth case was a 44-year-old returnee from Switzerland, who landed in Thailand on September 16 and is being quarantined in Chonburi.

 

Meanwhile, one person has fully recovered and discharged from hospital.

 

The total number of confirmed cases in Thailand has risen to 3,511 (573 in state quarantine), 109 of whom are in hospital and 3,343 have recovered. The death toll remains unchanged at 59.

 

According to CCSA, Thailand has conducted RT-PCR tests on 948,161 people, which works out to be 14,237 samples per one million people, of whom 0.37 per cent tested positive. Half of the tests were conducted by private hospitals and the other half by state hospitals and public health agencies.

 

According to Worldometer, as of 10am on Tuesday, the total number of confirmed cases worldwide had risen by 230,853 to 31.48 million. Of them, 23.1 million have fully recovered, 61,808 are in severe condition, 7.4 million are in hospital and 969,290 have died.

 

Thailand ranks 134th in terms of the number of cases in the world, while US leads the list with 7 million, followed by India 5.56 million, Brazil 4.56 million, Russia 1.1 million and Peru 772,896.

Asymtomatic people can spread virus to people who become "symtomatic": maybe sick, maybe die.

If they have no medical problems, can they continue to stay in quarantine for the two weeks?

Agree, asymptomatic people can spread the disease. Hence quarantine. But quarantine at the hospital with extremely high costs as compared to quarantine in the hotel room seems efficient.
But since Thailand required them to have high medical insurance, they probably figured send them straight to the hospital and collect the fees. This is one way to get money from lack of tourism

So all this covid madness is for 0.37 percent positive? That's cases, not hospitalizations. In the world of numbers, this is not only statistically insignificant, it's insignificantly insignificant.

Do you have any idea how rare asymptomatic spread risk is ? obviously not... at this stage of the game you should know how low risk it really is. 

 

Fact, we are all going to die and over third of us wont get any notice at all... it'll just happen. We are here possibly just once, get on with life and stop living in fear, unless your fat, infirm or paranoid.

There is a big difference between being prudent and living in fear. Hmm if I am fat, infirm or paranoid then it is okay to live in fear?

I am "getting on with my life", and part of that is avoiding doing overly risky things as best I can. One reason I don't have a motorbike here, for example

Sorry but I do not believe the asymptomatic claims. That article isnt hard to disbelieve, its the CDC and they change their line constantly like the WHO... if the claim of two thirds were true there would be zero point taking any measures,  Covid is supposedly special and extra sneaky to be the most asymptomatic virus in history, also so weak to the point of not even manifesting symptoms for most that contract it then it isnt a real risk at all to 99%, which is what the data shows anyway..  it makes little sense other than if its propaganda designed to scare. Which I believe it is.

 

BTW death does just happen, fully a third of us die with no warning, Autopsies cant fix the dead. 

 

I have owned bikes all my life including Thailand and rode one most every day, despite living in BKK, had my share of spills sure but it never stopped me riding. I dive too, used to rock climb, did motor sports, horse riding, snowboarding, sledging and all manner of stuff considered high risk, I have never avoided doing overly risky things just because. If you had a love for bikes but are not prepared to ride one in Thailand because of muh road statistics id call it fear rather than prudence yes.

 

Each to their own. Stay well and safe and prudent all you wish, i still think its mass hysteria and simple fear of the unseen.. a boogyman that scares adults... For me life is too short and living is a risk, ive been dead before too when quite young so thats probably got a lot to do with my views about life and risk taking, what will be will be.. its probably also why im a Buddhist too.

They found these cases because they were tested. If the general population was tested, as what is happening in many other countries, I would bet there would be tens if not hundreds of thousands of "positives".

Most Thais will get it, assume it's the flu, suck it up, get over it, and carry on with their lives. They aren't going to spend thousands of baht for any test.

Still running 800+ deaths per day in the U.S. from CV... Just think if this were a war, and the U.S. was experiencing 800 war dead on a daily basis. The public outcry would be huge....  But instead, these deaths are occurring quietly and alone, in hospitals, in isolation, not even family members allowed inside oftentimes.

lets just assume for a moment that the listing is accurate, which most nations admit it isnt as anything is being listed as a cov death and actually its believed to be much much LOWER as other causes of death are all being listed as covid the past 6 mths but lets assume it were true...globally the amount is still absolutely minuscule.. 

 

Roughly if we agree there are around 7 billion on the planet then 1 million would represent approx 0.0142857% ... it would have to kill 70 million to get near even 1%... which of course no one is suggesting it will. Think about that for a moment.... 31 million is barely .4% of the global population, so its not highly contagious either, just mildly and Its hardly  concern when looked at properly, either its deadly or its not, cases dont matter... clearly its not for 99% of even those who contract it...soooo.... naaa its not something im bothered about. The over reaction sure is though.

The official virus cases are only found where it's tested for and officially reported. In a lot of places, it isn't particularly tested for, including Thailand, and thus isn't reported. So your games playing with statistical percentages is just that, games playing.

 

For the U.S. right now, with 200,000+ dead from CV in about 8 months, it's already going to be the third leading cause of death in the country for the year, behind only heart disease and cancer. Those numbers are real, not fake, and anything but insignificant.
