Rugby World Cup 2007

Recommended Posts

Its about 10 days out from the start.... cant wait, although the first month will be lopsided games apart from the Eng v Bok game, and 1 or 2 others, hope this is tournament is the best so far.

Hi Donnyboy,

I had heard that UBCTV were going to show the RWC during SEPT/OCT on Star Sports - but I cannot extract a schedule from them.

Is there any truth in this ? if there is - can someone give us times and dates??

The Boks will eat the Poms 40 .. 12

z21rhd, go to truevisions website HERE and look under ESPN and select the dates between sept 8 to end of sept, you should get the games on the schedule. As I far as I can see, the first game isnt shown- Fra vs Arg.

yip Boks will destroy England, and I reckon Samoa might come close to beating them if Eng has a few injuries.

Hi Back again,

I processed the instructions exactly as suggested - the schedule that comes back is for the whole of AUGUST - no times etc for September.

perhaps you didnt select the correct month

Zilt RWC

I hope that UBC has not promised something they have no intention of delivering

Any other thoughts ??

perhaps try again. Maybe I wasnt clear enough with the instructions. :o

go back to the website as per my message above(post #147), select "ESPN" under Channel,

select from "sept 8" ALL TIME

select to "sept 30" All time

leave keyword empty

select "search"

you should now have one page of 29 of all the programmes on ESPN from sept 8 to sept 30, and first RWC cup shown is NZ vs Italy at 18.30 followed by Aus vs Japan at 20.30 ( this will be shown at the bottom of the page )

hope this clears, wouldnt like to deny anyone the chance to see The All Blacks win the 2007 RWC :D

Im glad you have extracted some RWC games, you must admit its a huge improvement from zilch. :D

although Im not a fan of UBC/true, I must applaud them on this occassion as they are showing some pool games at least and one may presume, the quarters, semis and final in october.

UBC dont usually have the schedule months out at a time so you may have to wait a few days into sept before you can access the oct game schedule.

From the comment above about Italy beating the All Blacks above, Im guessing that youre English?? as I havent yet come across any Italians named Richard :D It will be a very cold day in hel_l once the ABs go down to Italy, and about 4 million kiwis about to commit hari kari :D

but aside, the key game Im looking forward to outside the AB games is the Eng vs Samoa clash where Samoa may put England out. :D

Christmas may have come early to rugby fans as UBC have been showing 2003 RWC games. <deleted>?

I watched the Fra vs Ire game last night and another game on now Aus vs Scot.

anyway, the RWC is probably it for the next 4 years so make the most of it.

Scots Heritage - Born in the Colonies - would even support the Kiwis against the pongolians from that 3 cornered island off the coast of France.

What I waiting for is a Pure Zulu team to evolve. Imagine the Haka with spears !

When Oct comes I will extract the other games and post here.

Regards

Unfortunately I went back to UBC as we were being continually informed that STAR SPORTS were going to show the RUGBY WORLD CUP (In addition to that being shown by ESPN)

We are NOT going to sleep (or work for the whole of September - October will be worse for some fans.

I have extracted all the dates and times of the matches that I could find - they will have to be read together with the ESPN times etc ( I have a feeling that the schedule contains errors - but we will see)

The STAR SPORT SCHEDULE :-

Gents, I just went to the UBC time-table and saw:

ENGLAND Vs S. AFRICA Saturday 8th September

Time: 08.03 on channel 66

No idea if this is correct or not but if not, it casts some doubt over the rest of it....

Hi Tango , If one is incorrect - why would the rest be in doubt ???

Lets take the schedules at face value until we know the result.

no, having trouble with their "search schedule" wont bring up anything at this stage.

will try again later.

in the meantime, if you know of a local bar that has multichoice (supersports south africa) they are definately showing all the games live.

jees, its a tough life being an All Black :o

dont mind what they get as long as they come back with the William Ellis

Pampered All Blacks had 4 1/2 tonnes of excess baggage

5:00AM Sunday September 02, 2007

By Gregor Paul and Dylan Cleaver

First-class travel, luxury hotels, free guitars ... our World Cup All Blacks are being pampered right down to their personally embroidered airline blankets.

The All Blacks arrived in Corsica on Friday night to join their four-and-a-half tonnes of baggage. In each All Black's luggage you will find:

A selection of adidas casual and training gear (adidas also gave the players a customised guitar);

* Cufflinks courtesy of Steinlager;

* Philips headphones;

* A free cellphone courtesy of Telecom.

Plus they are flown in Air New Zealand's Business Premier seats, which recline into full-length beds, and are staying in some of France's grandest hotels.

Not that they'll be sleeping much - well, this weekend anyway.

A no-snooze policy has been introduced to stop players from taking afternoon naps during their two days in Corsica this weekend, the Last real r'n'r before the team wings its way to Marseille and the start of their campaign against Italy next Saturday night.

"We don't want them retiring to their rooms, that is when we need them out soaking up the sun, which helps recovery from jetlag," manager Darren Shand said.

The policy was being strictly policed, with senior players on the alert for anyone even thinking of taking an afternoon siesta.

The freebies and pampering are all a bit mindboggling for All Blacks from the amateur era. "We certainly didn't get a guitar," said Richard Loe, who travelled to the 1991 and 1995 World Cups.

The Herald on Sunday columnist, who will take a tour group to France for the quarter-finals onwards, said the highlight of their 1991 World Cup odyssey to Britain was a free monkey suit to wear to the end-of-tournament dinner.

"But Zinzan Brooke was in charge of the entertainment committee. After the Lille game [the quarter-final against Canada, won 29-13] he got us dressed up to take us on a mystery dinner."

Those who thought they were being taken to a country chateau were disappointed. "We were dropped off at McDonald's," Loe said.

Guitars? Well, Michael Jones was known to pull out an acoustic and lead the boys on a song, but this squad will bring new meaning to 10 Guitars, a long-time All Black favourite inexplicably missing from their recently released CD.

As for the long-haul travel in 1991, first-class and business-class cabins were seen only by NZRU officials. "We were shoved in cattle class and we were ticketed alphabetically," said Loe. "Poor Terry Wright was always jammed between the Whetton brothers, and I had big Blair Larsen next to me."

It helps having the national carrier as one of your principal sponsors, not least because each member of the touring party gets the maximum baggage allowance. Air New Zealand also gave the players a personally embroidered blanket. "We have sent about two-and-a-half tonnes of equipment over there already," Shand said.

"That's just jerseys, supplements, some New Zealand foods and the gear we train with. All in all, we have about four-and-a half-tonnes of luggage."

To put it into some perspective, the weight of the luggage is equivalent to 54 Nick Evans standing on each other's shoulders.

And the All Blacks will not be wanting for kit. "There is a whole range of training apparel and equipment and there is a fair range of casual kit too, and the footwear and the boots," Shand said.

"It is up to them what they take but we do ask them to wear adidas in their casual time as they have a big relationship with the team and it's important we support them. Philips have given us some headphones. Steinlager some cufflinks. adidas have given the players a personalised guitar. Telecom have provided phones."

They won't be slumming it, either. The squad will be accommodated in a luxury Palm Beach hotel, tucked beneath the beachfront promenade in gritty Marseille's most salubrious suburb.

The hotel is set into a cliff wall that protects its stunning coastline, and every All Black will have an unfettered view of the Mediterranean and the island where The Count of Monte Cristo was set.

In Aix-en-Provence they will rest their heads on pillows at Le Pigonnet, a grand complex set behind imposing gates.

In Corsica, the team has occupied a luxury getaway retreat on a secluded peninsula and have been enjoying yachting and biking.

About half the squad braved choppy swells in two America's Cup-type tender boats to journey across the gulf from their hotel to the nearest major town of Ajaccio.

The rest took less stomach-rumbling options of walking or biking around the roads.

Shand has drawn the line at any All Blacks trying paragliding. "It is all about being careful," Shand said. "We have been training so long we are not going to blow it by doing something silly."

Another All Black set to leave after RWC 2007.....

The All Blacks will be tested next year after a number of ABs have decided to leave after this RWC to play overseas. This will give the opportunity to new up and comers.

Howlett quits All Blacks

September 1, 2007 - 3:37PM

All Blacks wing Doug Howlett will quit the team after the World Cup to play for Irish club Munster, becoming the latest player to leave New Zealand.

The New Zealand Rugby Union announced the move Saturday, as Howlett and the rest of the team settled in France ahead of the World Cup which starts next weekend.

Howlett has played 60 games in the black jersey, scoring 43 tries - just four short of the All Blacks Test

He joins fellow New Zealand squad members Luke McAlister, Aaron Mauger, Anton Oliver, Chris Jack, Byron Kelleher and Carl Hayman in moving off-shore this year. -

Recent All Blacks who missed World Cup selection such as Rico Gear, Angus Macdonald, Greg Rawlinson and Sam Tuitupou have also taken up overseas contracts.

How do you guys rate Ireland,s chances?I must admit during the six nations i would have said they could have been a good outside bet however in light of recent dire performances and injurys to Horgan and O driscoll im not so sure.... :o

If they manage to beat Georgia then they have an outside chance of beating Rumania

Coo-ee cobbers,

Since the inception of the Rugby World Cup, Australia has won every second cup.......so turn up the volume, fill the esky up and sink a few whilst watching the aussies do it yet again.....

Whilst there may be the odd one or two who disagree with my extremely accurate and unbiased analysis, I know that all the people from the following countries will not only fully agree with me but will be shouting "aussie, aussie, aussie.....go you good thing.....go you bloody little ripper.....we surrender, we succomb" throughout the tourney:

New Zealand

South Africa

England

Ireland

Wales

Scotland

France

Fiji

Tonga

Samoa

Really, you should be supporting your own countries, but who can blame you all for wanting to be an aussie too....fair dinkum mate........you know ya wanna be

God luck for the title of "Runners Up"

BTW..................... :o

I can tell youre an aussie from that post- cocky to the core cobber. :o

as for wanting to be an Aussie, It will be a very cold day in hel_l when I start singing"waltzing Matildaaa" in response to the All Black Haka.

In order for the Wallabies to beat the ABs, the forwards will need to cut down on some pie eating (refer Matt Dunning), as some earlier Oz poster commented.

And beat the ABs in the scrum, rucks mauls and kick returns, otherwise they have a chance.

The Big Black Machine will be hard to stop, and will run right over them. But the Wallabies will have some comfort after the game, as they have the opportunity to indulge in a drug fuelled party, attended by the Aussie sports elite, ie Joey ex Johns, Ben Methy Cousins, Wendel snort Sailor, Ian testosty Thorp etc etc.... :D:D

BTW donnyboy, I have no doubt that the All Blacks are the favourites, as they have been every RWC...and rightly so,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but we were sent to the trenches together on the other side of the world and it's our legacy to take the piss out of each other,,,,,,,,,,,,,

.....so if by some minutist of chance that the mighty Oz lads don't win (I think that chance is rated about 0.0000002 % by NZ.com and meetaniceladysheep.net), I must concede that my support will default to our close south pacific neighbours :o

At least they can show the late ones anyway and hopefully have a big screen or at least 4 big t.v's!

I am English & am desperate for us to defend the trophy (however unlikely) but...am sorry nocturnal.....your comments may come back to bite you in the as8...especially with Donnyboy patroling this thread :o
