Trump jeered as he visits Ginsburg's casket at U.S. Supreme Court

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump was greeted with jeers and boos by a nearby crowd on Thursday as he visited the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's flag-draped coffin outside the U.S. Supreme Court.

Trump, wearing a black face mask and accompanied by first lady Melania Trump, stood near the casket at the marble court building amid chants of "vote him out." The moment highlighted the public flashpoint that Ginsburg's death has become ahead of the Nov. 3 presidential election.

The Republican president, who has already installed two top court picks since taking office in 2017, has said he would unveil his latest choice on Saturday, a week after the 87-year-old justice died on Sept. 18.

His decision to move quickly on a replacement just six weeks before the election has drawn sharp battle lines between Republicans and Democrats, and reshaped the race for the White House as Trump seeks re-election during a coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 200,000 people in the United States and devastated the economy.

As President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were paying their respects to the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg on Thursday in front of the court, the crowd begins to boo and chant "vote him out."

Ginsburg, appointed by Democratic President Bill Clinton in 1993, was an icon for liberals, especially as the court grew increasingly conservative. Her death has sparked a renewed push by Democrats to get people to the polls in November and an outpouring of campaign donations.

Trump dismissed the protests.

"I think that was just a political chant. We could hardly hear it from where we were," he told reporters later in the day.

White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany called the chants "appalling and disrespectful."

Before his election to president in 2016, Ginsburg criticized him publicly, calling him "a faker" in one interview. Trump responded by writing that Ginsburg's "mind is shot" on Twitter. She later apologized https://de.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-ginsburg-idUSKCN0ZU1PE, saying she regretted the "ill-advised" comments.

The president has maintained a respectful demeanor in his remarks about Ginsburg since her death, but he has drawn criticism from Democrats for not honoring her wish, reportedly dictated in a statement to her granddaughter, that she be replaced by the next president.

Normal response.

When he visited a World Series Game (Nats vs Astro-cheats) last year, he was greeted with boos and chants of "Lock Him Up". Trump thought it best to leave early, before they really got going. BTW That is why he only attends his own carefully orchestrated 'media events'. If he didn't, sixty per cent of Americans would tell him in no uncertain terms, how they feel.

Above is the last paragraph in the article. About sums it up perfectly. But for one thing. This last wish was the result of her not retiring after Obama, in the hopes that Hillary would become President, and she would then step down giving her the Supreme Court pick. Hillary lost. So - she remained on the Court hoping she would outlast Trump. She did not. Supreme Court Justices do not get to pick their successor, a fact that RBG obviously new very well. To hurl insult at the President of the United States while he pays his respects? Disgusting absolutely disgusting. Anything for power it seems.

Trump is going to return with a huge majority. People who hate him will hold their nose and vote Republican, due to the rioting, looting, and burning of Antifa-BLM.

The anti-Trump movement is astroturfing and gaslighting.

There will be an effort to contest the election. We are hearing that voter fraud is not a factor, whereas there are actually thousands of cases.

Not sure why people bother pretending to be concerned when their political opponents die? It's sort of pathetic and I think we should be more grown up then pretending we are grieving and sending our prayers. I don't give a rat's ass. There I said it.

People in the inner city that can not afford to just move to a suburb are terrified of the new normal in blue cities.

Agree, it was inappropriate in the circumstances. On the other side of the coin trump has led the lack of respect for institutions and extremely insulting behaviour towards those who disagree with him. so not particularly surprising he personally is experiencing a similar response.

Yes, a whole 8 cases in the last ten years! 2010 was a particularly bad year and had six.

Given this is quoting your "evidence" can you explain to us where are the missing thousands you claim are happening?

It is helpful when people post facts, but not helpful when in defiance of the facts, incorrect rhetoric comes out. Kind of what is commonly known as fake news. The facts, even the ones you presented show that voter fraud is indeed, not a problem.

Majority?  LOL. This is the lowest class of society that would disgrace a funeral gathering, and most of the remaining violent protesters are in that same class.  Be careful who you fall on your sword for. ????
