webfact
Teachers held over abuse of kindergartners released on bail By THE NATION The Nonthaburi provincial court on Tuesday decided to release two teachers held for the abuse of young students on a bail guarantee of Bt60,000 each. Sarasas Witaed Ratchaphruek School teacher Onuma Ploadprong, 30, had been detained for assaulting kindergartners and Phamonlak Laksameemethakorn, 48, had been held for doing nothing to stop her. The court granted bail because the suspects had surrendered before being summoned. Police also said the two women showed no intention of escaping. Last week, the school came under the spotlight after CCTV recordings showed kindergarten teacher Onuma physically assaulting children by banging their heads on their desks, pushing them to the ground or twisting their ears until they screamed in pain. A recent video published online on Tuesday showed the teacher dragging a child along the floor by the collar. The subject is still a hot issue on social media, with some netizens sharing their personal experiences of abuse in school, making the point that this problem needed to be addressed as soon as possible. Initial investigation revealed that several teachers at this school had no teaching licence.
