All this over access to some fish? An industry which is insignificant to both the UK and EU's GDP.

But of course it has become a totemic issue for Brexiteers because of buzzwords like sovereignty.

It's actually more of an issue for Macron and the Dutch really. Just simply "Sorry, it's a No from me." from the UK.

  • The Euros are running around like headless chickens on the other thread. It's as if they think another example of EU saber rattling is important and the UK would be impressed by it or the threat of EC

  • You condone law breaking then providing it’s us breaking the law ? If the EU did it how loudly would you be wailing now ? ????

EU threat to cut off City unless it gets answers over regulation after Brexit
Candidate to be the EU's financial services commissioner demands to know how far UK will split from Brussels's rules and regulations

Candidate to be the EU's financial services commissioner demands to know how far UK will split from Brussels's rules and regulations

Brussels will refuse the City of London access to the EU’s market from next year unless the UK sets out its plans to diverge from the bloc’s financial rules.

Mairead McGuinness, an Irish centre-Right MEP, is the candidate to be the EU’s financial services commissioner. If approved by the European Parliament, which is expected, she will be the City’s gatekeeper to the Single Market. The Fine Gael politician and former member of the parliament’s Brexit Steering Group, told MEPs at a hearing into her candidacy that Brussels needed answers from the UK.

Short memories eh?

Ms Mairead McGuinness might recall that the UK lent Ireland some 3.25 billion quid when their economy crashed in 2010. British banks also propped up Ulsterbank, the countries third biggest, to the tune of some 10 billion or so. If Ulsterbank had gone under then it would have been a mortal blow to an already badly injured economy.

Yes I'm sure the EU takes the views of a local French mayor as gospel while negotiating with the UK.

Did the express also interview the school janitor?

" no  reason to pity the City " …(rhymes..????)

BTW she is only asking needed answers..... only "cut of " if needed depending the "escalations" in wait...????

Martin Howe QC and Clive Thorne, chairman and vice chairman of lawyers for Britain are quoted as saying "After we ceased to be an EU member in February, the European Court of Justice became an entirely foreign court which owes its allegiance wholly to the EU, and none whatsoever to the UK. There is no actual means by which an ECJ judgement can be enforced againgst a sovereign state which defies it."

So why hasn't Macron or Barnier told Frost "OK you can keep your fish, they are insignificant to our GDP anyway. Forget the mayor and lets negotiate something important"?

Let's put it this way, if you were Spassky and I was Fischer, I would be knocking your king over and declaring 'Check Mate'

That may or may not be correct, but it does nothing to protect the UK's international standing and the perception of its trustworthiness.

Country first, our laws first every time. It must be very sad that some Brits on here might not see a foreign power sue our country, that's all it boils down to RR.

Why would even now E.U. would  agree whatever with U.K. as the next day /week / month  you would not respect it anymore ….?

Oh maybe a deposit guarantee would be the solution...????

It doesn't matter if you don't like it.

Correction, our membership ended 31st Jan 2020

(Same same ...even not different as last week , WTO it's gone be ????......)

Big differences remain in post-Brexit trade talks with the UK, Brussels' chief negotiator has said. As the deadline for cutting an agreement looms, Michel Barnier welcomed some "positive new developments" following this week's negotiations in London.

But he warned there had been a "lack of progress" on issues like climate change commitments and "persistent, serious divergences on matters of major importance for the EU".

"We will continue to maintain a calm and respectful attitude, and we will remain united and determined until the end of these negotiations," Mr Barnier added in a statement released on Friday.

Talking of trustworthiness, do you really trust the SNP to run an independent Scotland? I see another one of their MPs is feeling the long arm of the law. This one using public transport after a positive Covid test, putting lives at risk. Unbelievable!

Besides, the SNP MP had a positive test result and then travelled on public transport. That's a whole new level of rule breaking!

The EU has hundreds of these cases against IT'S OWN member states. They take years to settle.

There's really not much to see here except Remainer tears and dummies being spat across the room.

In other news, we offered them a 3 year extension on fishing and they rejected it so No Deal is looking more likely. YEEHAAAW.

On average they take 35 months. That’s well within the 4 more years that the UK has signed up for the ECJ. And it’s enough time for a decent government being elected in the UK who would settle for half the fines ????

Why are you and the others Scots here worried about its standing and reputation, who constantly put the UK down and want to be separated from a union of well over 400 years old to one with the EU that is in its infancy.

I find it touching that you care for the UK for once or is it really that you jump on any bandwagon that you can "Bash the UK' at any opportunity.
