No cause for an alarm, or concern. That is what quarantine is for.

How would I revive tourism here, if I were in charge?

A simple plan. A non antigen test 72 hours before the flight. And Thailand ups their game, and invests in some modern technology, and provides on the spot antigen testing at Suvarnabhumi or elsewhere. It is easy. You pass two different tests, using two different methodologies, and you are covid free.

Welcome. No health insurance required. No groveling at a consulate. No quarantine. Welcome to Thailand. Have a great trip. And thanks so much for bringing a bundle of cash. Our people really need it.

No panic. No fear mongering. Double testing. You are safe. We are safe. Life is good.

Abbott has received FDA emergency use authorization for a COVID-19 antigen it is pricing at $5 that delivers results in 15 minutes. Other companies including BD and Quidel already sell antigen tests but Abbott’s scale led some analysts to identify its entry to the market as a potential game-changer. Abbott plans to ship 50 million kits a month starting in October, making mass testing more feasible.

It would not bring tourism back to where it was. That will not happen in our lifetimes. But, it would help millions of people here.

The problem with just testing hefore and om arrival only is that people often test negative early in the disease. And certainly anyone who hecame infected on the flight will not be showing positive test yet.

Hence the quarantine and repeat test at day 13.

Could probably reduce this to 10 days with minimal loss in detection. But not do away with it altogether.

A little tangent to the topic, but do they have short term ASQ for flight crew, where they can stay in quarantine only until their rest period is over and they need to get back to fly out?  Or do they have to stay the entire 15 days before they can get back to work?

I could see either way making sense, since you don't want sick flight crew infecting a whole planeload...  Even if it's on its way out of Thailand.

This is exactly what quarantine is for; to find those with the virus and prevent it from getting into Thailand. The system seems to be working well so there is no need to limit tourist visa applications to low risk countries. 3 tests and 2 weeks quarantine removes all risk to Thailand wherever tourists come from.

The only risk is starvation and destitution for the millions of Thais no longer making a living from the tourists who are no longer coming.

Until they run out of hospital capacity.

True but you won't have 40 million tourist coming in, you will only have those who are able to stay for longer than 2 weeks. Meaning the average tourist won't flying in only long stayers..So you can definitely say they will never run out of hospital space.

There are people will to go into quarantine and especially now with the 90 day visa as long as they can travel freely after quarantine.  Really not sure why every country closed don't restart this way.
