The casual observer could have been forgiven for thinking all this had already been thrashed out, but now that looks to be far from the case.

Very true for the casual observer.......the more informed would guarantee that something like this will happen

The whole fiasco of " forced tourism" was ill conceived and born of haste and "will work out the kinks when we get to it" typical Thailand...

what is forcing them to stay the full duration ?

hey're not tourists if they have to stay for minimum 90 days, but has anyone confirmed that they will? I would be very surprised.

The original announcement said a minimum stay of 30 days but available for 90.  Have they changed that as well?

Let's not forget that by TAT's own admission these are not 'tourists' but 'business travelers invited by Thailand’s Board of Investment'.

Yes and being invited would normally mean being sponsored in some way. I suspect their whole expense for this trip will be met by the Thai government in return for their investment.

It appeared to be all systems go for the arrival of the first 150 tourists from Guangzhou China but they will now have to wait despite it being announced that a charter plane was virtually on the tarmac in China

Will their fit to fly and test 72 hr before flying and all the rest of it still be valid if the plane is stuck ..

An' if not will Thailand be paying for new ones ..

Sure. Thailand has masterfully avoided 150 potential infections... To keep Thailand World's safest destination...

Tourists pose a much higher risk than residents. They visit many places and often enjoy the nightlife every day. On top of it the tourists are here a short time and are replaced by new tourists. You can't compare them with people living all the time at the same location.

"Cases" are irrelevant.  At this point every nation on earth with a internet connection knows how to effectively deal with this virus.

The only relevant numbers are hospitalizations and deaths which are both plummeting.

Absolutely correct.  The average person has no comprehension of the economic devastation lurking on the horizon for the entire world.  The longer this lock down travesty goes the worse it will be.  Entire industries are going to cease to exist.

While I agree, less tourists, traffic, etc. are a great thing.  It is also all those tourists that bring the things we miss and patronize into Thailand: an occasional Burger King, Villa Market, english speaking  movies, basically everything Thais have absolutely no use for.  Eliminate tourism and all things western are eliminated as well.  There is simply not enough expat traffic to keep them going.

Life will literally be like it was 40 yrs ago.

Plummeting deaths and hospitalizations.... Really?

Burger King.... Really?
