Thailand's stray dogs: Rabies alert as six primary school kids savaged at breaktime

Two vicious Thai breed stray dogs got into a school in Chonburi at breaktime and attacked six schoolchildren.

One was bitten in the face by his right eye.

Others tried to flee in terror but were bitten on the arms and legs.

The dogs then escaped over a wall back out of Wat Nong Kho school in Sri Racha and attacked three villagers.

The authorities fired tranquilizer darts. One brown and white dog was found unconscious in the toilets of a shop.

The other was found in waste ground.

All the victims were taken to Queen Savang Vadhana Memorial Hospital.

Daily News reported that the P2 (primary grade two) children did not provoke the animals and were buying snacks at breaktime.

Other stray animals were taken away to prevent a repetition.

The two that were shot are being tested for rabies.

Here we go again, soi dogs need to be exterminated like the dangerous vermin they are, not fed bags of old rice by idiots and left for the numbers to explode into the millions. Just wait until the 'pittie' genes get into the stray population, kids will be ripped apart not just bitten.

As far as I know it's not possible to 'test for rabies' without cutting the mammal's head off. But I'm happy to be proven wrong.

This is very sad, and a difficult situation all over the country. Why should humans destroy the dogs for our own convenience of living with peace of mind? Sterilising the females to reduce reproduction and castrating the males to reduce aggression is the only solution.

Noticing many more strays sleeping on the streets these days, abandoned by owners no doubt facing financial troubles during the pandemic. The dogs need taking off the streets now.

Sadly, there is neither the money, but more importantly the will to deal with the problem. Thais because of the Buddhist attitude won't put them down, leaving mass sterilisation as the only real long term solution, but that only occurs in meaninglessly small numbers. This is a story set to repeat itself again and again.

I like good clean healthy home dogs. I don't like diseased mutts that roam sois and bite kids. Eradicate them all and make the streets safe.

As I have always advocated in this forum regarding Soi Dogs. Put em out of their misery for the safety of the public, and make all dog owners register their dogs and pay taxes as well as insurances for their animals.

Buddhism does not stop them all eating meat and that cannot be done with killing masses of animals. There is another reason when it comes the the reluctance to deal with soi dogs, and I think we all know what that is.

Someone suggested before, there are enough Moslem Thais to form a squad to eliminate the stray animals!

You'll feel differently if your children are ever threatened by stray dogs.

Any animal which poses a serious threat to humans in areas where humans live need to ‘dealt with’.

Thailand does not see this as an issue and hides behind Buddhism for its inaction. The solution is simple.

Cull all street dogs. Remove all aggressive dogs from owners who fail to keep their dogs correctly.

It's not a difficult situation and it only becomes difficult when people use poor excuses to take half measures.

This issue which has gone on for decades can be dealt with very quickly and very efficiently if those making the decision were forced to care.

Your post is partly true, but on the whole; nonsense.

"The Buddhist attitude won't put them down."

You were about DSD before the present regime came into power. You will recall the monthly 'dog wagon' visits. I didn't see any Thais demonstrating about them then. Where did they think the dogs were heading?

Bring back the dog wagons. And any dog without a collar is fair game. This will soon see the problem sorted.

The only problem with registering these mutts, is when the owner of the dog bites someone, suddenly they are not the owner.

It looks like things are finally happening regarding the abuse of children in schools.

It would be great if the authorities could get their fingers out and do something about this menace.

The Buddhism excuse doesn't wash, other animals are mistreated all the time in Thailand.

I think that 20 something years ago Phitsanulok actually did do something about the strays so it can be done.

Bang on the money.

When I buy my lottery ticket, and I get overcharged, I'll consider the following;

If I win the 6m baht. I'll go back to the vendor, who sold me the ticket, and give her 20 baht. My interpreter will say; "Thank you. If you had charged me the correct price, 80 baht, as promoted by MR Chan-o-cha, you would be 1000 baht better off."

Not a waste of time at all. If they simply assume the dogs have rabies the 6 children and 3 adults bitten by the dogs will have to go through a course very painful injections,,,,,,,possibly needlessly

That´s the reason to register.

There are stray packs just before and just after the Temple on Beach Road. Jomtien.  They race around teritorially in packs bullying other strays,

terrorising cycle riders and some pedestrians with pets on leads.  Same occurs just near Soi Welcome, also many sleeping in the centre of the sidewalk and not budging an inch for you to walk past.  Call time on all Soi Dogs now before more kids and riders get bitten maybe with a rabied dog.

Where I live it is mating season and the male dogs run in packs of around 20 dogs looking for female dogs. Now most of these dogs had owners at a early age but when the dogs grew older nobody wanted them. So they dump them in Temples or just let them go in the streets. This is a Thai problem and they need to do a better job taking care of their pets.
