Pattaya: Bali Hai landmark development a total mess and waste of 100 million baht, says Thai media

Thai news site Manager pulled no punches in criticizing the development at Bali Hai pier in Pattaya, describing it as a total mess and a waste of 100 million baht.

They reported that local officials were on site on Wednesday and found that the passenger building and landscaped park area were dilapidated and useless.

Even the landmark’s ‘dancing’ fountain was not working.

A lack of maintenance had been blamed.

The area was redeveloped to much fanfare in 2017 ahead of an international marina event.

Manager said the development was the baby of the previous NCPO government, who ploughed 108 million baht into the project.

Deputy administrator Kiatsak Sriwongchai was on the scene with officials yesterday examining the damage and lack of maintenance.

Manager reported that Pattaya’s mayor has demanded that the area be brought up to standard immediately.

How can they say it was a waste....?

Most of that money went straight into the pockets of the ‘right’ people…who have wisely invested it in important commodities like real estate, new cars, jewelry, designer handbags, expensive watches...and countless other things essential to stimulating the nation’s economy.

Hardly a failure...just another example of Thailand's far-sighted government hard at work.

Fantastic blue concrete park !

Obviously a 100m scheme has much bigger sums to divert than a 25m scheme which is probably the value of the work done.

They could not even clear up the Dog Poop properly for the Photo Shoot.

It would look better if they knocked down that monstrosity that looms over it.

No I can't I'll get done for deformation.

Where is the "bought off plan" refund list?

No <deleted> Sherlock. The last time it used to be nice was when there were trees and the car park wasn't there, not to mention the monstrous tower. Bulldoze it all and put the trees back.

100,000,000 contract.

Ignore the specs, buy all Chinese materials. cheap as possible.

That is 10 for u, 10 for me

coupled with the fact that Thais have never been big on maintenance  (if you do not believe, will send you photos)

No chance. Thank Heaven Thailand do not make planes

They haven't really "made" anything.

Making other peoples stuff (notably Japanese cars and motorcycles) under, I presume, foreign supervision and standards levels, is what they do.

Red Bull is their indigenous contribution to the world manufactured goods market........thanks to an Austrian.

Cheap labour is what's really "Made in Thailand".

Looks like something my son can skateboard on

Pattaya is a bloody shambles, nothing more needs to be said............

That path along the water looks like faux wood planks...but it's right next to the sea, only stone/concrete can stand that long time...

Why don't they just copy the beachroads like in Spain? Those are perfect..the Thai really miss the brain to build something good which lasts 50 years or more.

I wish they would just proclaim project of X million baht, put out artist renderings, skim whatever percentage is standard and stop there.

Like Hippocratic oath: First, do no harm

The three "improvements" to Jomtien beach that have been done while I've lived here all have done significant damage to the appearance, usability, you name it

A lack of maintenance had been blamed.

On account of the fact that Thais do not know the meaning of it.  Once all commissions on the build have been paid to the decision-makers, a project is abandoned to time and tide.

Remember the maria and Bali Hai remodel before this one, that the mayor's  brother was involved in when he was mayor.....The pontoons for the marinas walkway were washing up on the beach after the first storm......They spend millions on the pier and the only change was a fresh coat of paint.....We were promised a park and ended up with a blue parking lot.....

They have no shame.....

there will be some who would reckon it was worth it...

for getting rid of the illegally squattered boats from being trailer parked there...

That was the original goal wasn't it??

 - but the plan just got bigger...

You can't even park on the blue bits !!  sign says no parking due to "maintenance"  555
