BANGKOK (NNT) - After JOB EXPO 2020 successfully found 240,000 placements for out of work Thais affected by the COVID-19 situation, the Ministry of Labor has decided to provide career training courses for both those re-entering the workforce and looking to work independently.

Director-General of the Department of Skills Development, Tawatch Benjatikul explained today that each course would take 3-8 months to complete and be divided between training at the Skills Development Institute and in internship programs at actual businesses to build experience. Each province is to have its own courses based on market needs. with training to range from motorcycle mechanic skills to CNC operator, computer design artist, welder, electrician, automation operator, hair stylist and Thai cooking. All courses will be free of charge with lodging to be provided to those unable to travel.

The project is targeted at new laborers who are not in the education system, the unemployed and members of the public looking for self-improvement and ready to rejoin the workforce. People interested in the scheme, can visit the Department of Skills Development’s website, Facebook page or call 1506 ext. 4

3 - 8 Month Courses in these skilled vocations is a joke for many of these

Welders, Electrician, CNC Operator and Automation Operator need a whole lot more Training than 8 Months to have any kind of skill level after the course

What a Joke, no wonder so many other Nations here in SE Asia are taking work and jobs away from Thai Factories.

Maybe in your opinion a joke, but it beats drinking and gambling, or sitting at home without a job.

Imho it is an excellent initiative.

Its OK to be a " Skilled Welder " having been Trained to a high standard in just 3 Months.

But its better these people stay Home Gambling and Drinking with no Jobs, as they will be an Army of Accidents waiting to happen when their Welding they have been taught in 3 Months fails, and maybe many people Die.

Same goes for a Sparky

Its an excellent initiative if people are Trained correctly, and as a C&G Toolmaker and CNC programmer, I will tell you from experience of 50Years, that there is no way to Train people in these Skills to a competent and safe level in 3 - 8 Months.

I'd rather have a semi-skilled welder than the guy who had been welding a full day that I had to send to be taken to Hospital when I came for daily inspection at 16:30 in the afternoon, because the dipstick thought the provided full face mask was too inconvenient and he used his 50B or so sunglasses.

Obviously 8 months is not enough to train them for this job, but I guess the idea here to give them basic training and them let them work under supervision of an experienced professional.

As it is with any job, blue or white collar - you have some training, and learn the rest on the job!
