Anutin: Thailand is ready to open up to foreign tourists

In the most positive statements yet from the Thai government, the country's health minister and DPM has issued an upbeat message saying the country is completely ready to reignite mass foreign tourism. 

 

Anutin Charnvirakul, speaking after being buoyed by praise from the WHO, said that Thailand was completely on top of Covid-19, ready for foreign tourists and ready for that to kickstart the whole Thai economy.

 

"We can recover from the pandemic quickly," he said. "The rest of the world has confidence in us and many foreigners want to visit.

 

"We must use all our "charms" to get lots and lots of them to come".

 

According to Bangkok Biz News he used the word "saneh" that can also be translated as putting a spell on someone.

 

He pointed to the fact that revenue from foreign tourists was huge and a key factor in getting the whole economy going again.

 

He said that the government and the prime minister were fully behind the opening up of the country to mass tourism once again, subject to certain measures.

 

He said that his health department were "ready for everything".

 

Thaivisa notes that Anutin's statements come after a good report for the country's response to the pandemic from the world health organization and the UN.

 

His work during the pandemic has been mixed. Back in February he had his now infamous spat with a "dirty foreigner" who wouldn't accept his offer of a mask. He also took an unseemly swipe at his own compatriots in the healthcare sector.

 

Then he was pictured allegedly breaking virus protocols at a lunch. 

 

All this now seems to have been put to one side as the country prepares to open.

 

However, exactly how, when and to whom the opening of the country will be accomplished has been chopped and changed multiple times already.

 

The health minister's rhetoric must be seen in this light with a caveat that the devil will be in the details.

How long ago did this guy proclaim Thailand was ready to legalise people growing their own cannabis?

........ and how near is that to happening?

 

Now apply that same time period to open borders for Tourists.

Exactly! What does the phrase "Ready to open up", really mean?

But no mention whatever about quarantine, negative test reports, when/where tests taken/speed of test reports ...

 

If Khun Anutin wants to move forward with mass tourist quickly he needs to bite the bullet and mention/explain all of these points.

The WHO had said that lockdowns were not necessary anymore. But today we have new lockdown in Holland for 4 weeks.

 

Why do some countries not follow the advice of the WHO? They also said that the deadly rate of corona is 0.13% which is the same as a normal virus.....

 

So who's crazy now?

It's those certain measures which are the issue. They have no idea what measures to use, as is evident from the daily flip flop on the proposals to date. The whole thing is just a comedy show.

And foreign tourists are ready to return. They've heard about the "severe" state of emergency and seen pics of the army back on the streets. They're very excited. 

 

What a complete a**hat. 

Thailand has been COVID free for many months but everyone is still in masks. Do these people really look ready to you? It's not going to be trivial to undo the fear and hysteria that's currently in the population. Everyday we live like this it's going to be harder to go back to normal.

This guy is dramatically overestimating his charm, and that is this regime. Especially in light of the new draconian restrictions put into place, on protests. The world will not be viewing these measures kindly, and only the Chinese will not be put off by this, as they are accustomed to this kind of thing at home. 

 

And they keep on droning on about foreign investment, programs for foreigner to buy condos, etc. In one step, they have utterly killed that market. Expect Thailand to continue to move backwards. There was some hope, and that hope appears to have been extinguished by the 3D army. Dim, desperate, and diabolical.

not only that, there have been severe 2nd outbreaks all over the world and in countries that would be a source of these so called tourists, it matters not a jot what Thailand is ready for nobody is travelling anywhere any time soon

The last four words are those that matter. We know what these measures are and that will put off tourists as long as they are in place.

 

They also seem to have forgotten to take into account the rest of the world, where peope in many countries can't travel, don't want to travel or have their own quarantine rules.

You know, it's absolutely imperative for Thailand to generate 1.5 TRILLION baht from tourism by the end of 2021 if you want to safe TAT governor Yutthasak from suffering a humongous loss of face.

Yeah the news here is not about Thailand opening up, but articles that describe how the army split up protesters and that they say its illegal to gather in larger groups. 

 

Not the best news from Thailand if they want to attract more tourists. 

Sounds like a politician running for reelection who proclaims all is well...going to be even better in the very near future....reelect me to ensure it happens.
