3 days ago I returned to Thailand from Europe and got out into the hotel quaruntine. I am a a family member with a Thai wife..The hotel is lovely and everyone is nice but being stuck in 1 room for 14 full days is hard. Iam an american but have lived  in Portugal for the last 4 months. All these latest proposals for foreign tourists,home owners but NOT the retirees are in summary a joke. The Thais only mention the added benefit of all the income they will get but never what the foreigners need. I have not seen my wife and Thai daughter for 10 months and this was the only way.But as I explained to my wife I do not see myself making Thailand a permanent home by the way they have treated the foreigners in general. Immigration with tm30,9,28...come on.They don,t ask our opinion what we think. I am an alien but NOT from mars..Philippines will give me easy retirement visa with no hassles, no reporting because they want me and need me..Thais don't really want us here. With the latest insult to homeowner to put up 100,00USD in thai bank to come ..obviously heads are spinning and with the condo glut already and prices dropping how stupid it would be to dump more good money into bad. I will probably considering the current sh_tshow talk to some realtors about my very large condo in Bangkok to sell. This place is not the place where I want to enjoy the rest of my life. In Europe where I have a small house near the ocean they love foreigners. The beaches are clean,the drivers are not insane, the price are much cheaper than Thailand and there is NO choking smoke in the winter..I see no comparison..yes I will miss my crazy and affectionate massage girls( and my wife.LOL) but overall there is no comparison to the quality of life for a foreigner ..especially an expat.Thailand and the people who run it are blind and self centered. Not only that they truly believe that people want to come here now. So may better place to go and probably live ..and I live it here and my family but after 8 years I am tired of being abused by immigration, almost killed everyday on the road, being overcharged cause I,m white,looking at garbage and bags everywhere I go,breathing the most polluted air when the burning starts,being shaken down for money by police,..and swimming on always dirty beaches now. Thailand needs to recognize us as a valuable part of their culture. We can hardly ever become citizens here..but everywhere else they WANT us not just for our money..The politics as well clearly show you how Thais are treated by their government.( So many starving and not working)..so why should we be expected to be treated better than that.I,m sorry for my family here but the future does not look bright. I,m getting old now and can afford to live anywhere but really tired of jumping through hoops and bullcrap. Maybe this quaruntine is making me crazier but by being alone and isolated gives time for quiet thought and contemplation..it's like a bad hand of cards in poker with money in the pot...TIME TO FOLD! Good luck and well wishes to others like me put into an uncomfortable position to make such harsh life decisions. No reason to be abused..YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE

Where do they find these guys? Under rocks I guess. I love Thailand, am married to a Thai/American citizen for 20 years who  I adore. Love my extended Thai family and we have a comfortable home we have owned for many years. Having said all that, we’re packing up for the Algarve In Portugal where I’m welcome unlike here where I’m constantly maligned. Bye Bye Thailand and so sorry for all the people we employ and are leaving behind.

Thailand will not open to any genuine tourism. There conditions are ridiculous and broad daylight robbery. Nobody is coming to there pay to be jailed nightmare. Thais should accept and welcome tourists with caution and common sense. Or don't open

Do you think it has dawned on the clowns running Thailand that without tourism, a huge number of people are going to be out of work and banging on the governments door for hand-outs, or rioting because they have nothing to eat.

 

Has the penny dropped that the Thai tourist is at or near tip-over point when so many businesses will have gone broke that tourism as it was in the past cannot be resumed because the number of available hotel beds and restaurants to serve them will no longer be adequate to accommodate them? I know of at least one restaurant that used to serve western tourists that has gone bust and I am certain that there are many 1000s more.

 

Oh and did I forget to mention that maybe, just maybe, Thailand is not as clear of Covid-19 as the government would have people believe. Two Thais tested positive for Covid on arrival at an overseas airport - 2 people out of an aircraft full - that represents an infection rate rather higher than has ever been acknowledged by Thai officials!
