Typhoon Goni Warning

Featured Replies

Because of the trolling of my previous topic I want to make it clear that this is a prediction of the formation of a possible tropical storm.

It is not my prediction I am just doing a heads up for anybody who might need to take action in case of the possibility of heavy rain in Thailand.

There seems to be a relentless  march of the  typhoons/storms this year .

For those who take notice  even in Australia they are constantly eying the sky never knowing if there is a need  to  duck  or not!

You should change TV name to Armageddon. ????

Typhoon Goni is now being called a super typhoon. There is a lot of chatter on Twitter by tropical storm experts calling this a monster storm.

MANILA (UPDATED) - Tropical cyclone Rolly (international name Goni) will intensify into a super typhoon before its landfall over Luzon, the US military weather agency said Thursday.

The tropical cyclone, which is currently brewing east of the Philippines, will reach peak strength at 130 knots (240.76 kilometers per hour) maximum sustained winds and gusts reaching 160 knots (more than 296 kilometers per hour) on October 31, the United States Navy – United States Air Force Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) said.

This is a photo that I received directly from the NOAA-18 weather satellite yesterday (Friday), (using an antenna made of blue water pipes and old wire...).  I think the typhoon is just outside view on the right side.

I'll see if I can download an image later today (if the satellite passes overhead).

LoL seems to be!  I received an image from NOAA-15 this morning - still no sign of that typhoon.  Here's the antenna BTW...

"A typhoon that is the most intense storm of 2020 is swirling in the North Pacific, and it's heading for a direct hit on the Philippines.

Super Typhoon Goni rapidly intensified this week, and as of Friday boasted sustained winds of 285 km/h, putting it squarely at Category 5-equivalent strength.

Goni looks to keep much of its strength over the next couple of days, and may still be at least Category 3 Sunday morning when it strikes Luzon in the Philippines, the country's most populous island that is also home to the capital Manila."

your antenna is working extremely well. Congratulations on fabricating it. a total pain to make those curved elements.

I have a SDRDuo, SDRUno, HackRF, and two NooElec SDRs with a Diamond D3000N Discone antenna and various other antennas.

further intensified (Category 5 - Super Typhoon) and is now having 1-min maximum sustained winds of up to 295 km/h and gustiness of 360 km/h. Source: Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC)

Unfortunately it looks like we will be seeing more destruction in the  Philippines soon.

I also thought it would be a pain to construct.  But it was very easy.  The curved elements are just wires connected to the top, midle and bottom supports - so they naturally follow a curved line.  From start to finish, I built this antenna in one morning ????  It works very well! (NOAA-15 image from this morning...)

You could organise guided tours to interested people. Explaining why you have so many and also about the purpose of each....

The track seems to be moving south a bit.  On the 5th, they are predicting 35 knot winds.  Not too bad.  But it's the rain I'm worried about.

I see there is another one , named Atsani following it.

Under the path or not when it comes to rain it looks to be very widespread.

If moisture is the enemy of Covid-19 then this part of Asia should be squeaky clean !

Right now more concerned with the Philippines as they lost more than 6 thousand in the last super typhoon that hit the same area in 2013.  More than a million have been evaculated but that is a two edged sward with Covid such a problem there.  Winds are now estimated to be at least 315 KPH.

I once considered retiring there.  Storms like this scared me off!

One reason to either live on west coast (land/mountains quickly kills wind speed) and in Southern islands - very few track through Cebu or lower.

reading on Twitter that Goni will be in the top five storm in terms of wind speed to strike land.

it does look like the storm is tracking slightly more south now.
