Marriage Visa and 2-Month "Seasoning" of 400,000 Baht

Featured Replies

Is there any way around the 2 month seasoning time of 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank (for a marriage visa)?  I have the Thai bank account and plenty of money.  But my O visa (non-imm B) runs out the middle of December, just not enough time...

Love my fiance, and ready to marry her.  Don't want to get married and then have to leave her here.

BTW First time poster, hope I did this correctly.

Did you - since your last entry in Thailand - already apply for a 60-day extension of stay for reason of visiting your wife?  If not, you could do that and it will provide you sufficient time to season the 400K for the 1-year extension application.

I think you are right......do not leave her here.

That sounds amazing!  We have been together for a year, and both excited to marry.  But we are not married yet.  So I have never applied for an extension of stay to see her.

If I am reading this correctly, it sounds like we can get married as we already planned...then I can apply for a 60-day extension of stay based on visiting my wife.  Thus allowing my money to season for 2 months, which opens the door to the real marriage visa.

Did I get that right?  I sure hope I did.  It's leaving a lot hanging on the hope that I can get that extension of stay, but that is OK.  It sounds like a pretty solid reason to ask for one.

Yes, you got that right.

You would need a 'Free to Marry' statement from your Embassy, and that would then allow you to marry at ANY local amphur in Thailand.  That amphur-marriage would provide you on the spot with a Kor Ror 3 (Thai Marriage Certificate) and a Kor Ror 2 (certificate of Thai marriage registration).  On the basis of those documents you can then apply at your local IO for a 60-day extension of stay for reason of visiting your wife.  That 60-days would prolonge your current permission to stay with 60 days, and allow you to season the required 400K for your 1-year extension of stay application.

Attached below the (easy) requirements for that 60-day extension of stay.

The 60-day extension of stay can be done for ANY type of entry or extension of stay.

When you apply for the 60-day extension of stay for reason of visiting your Thai wife, she will have to be with you when you apply and she has to bring her ID-card and a copy of it.

You would need to provide proof of residence.

If your wife is the owner of the place you are staying, a copy of the house-book from that place will do.  When renting, a copy of the rental agreement will be needed with signed copies of the owners house book and ID card signed by the owner.

To prove you are still married, you need to bring the original Kor Ror 3 (Thai marriage certificate) as well as a copy of it. And most offices will also want a recent printout (not older than 1 week) of your Kor Ror 2 (certificate of Thai marriage registration), which can be requested at any Amphoe and will be issued on the spot (cost between 5 and 20 THB).

You will also need a completed TM7 form with a 4 X 6 cm photo attached, as well as copies of your passport photo page, Visa sticker, entry stamp (with permission to stay date) and your TM6 departure card.

So it looks like you are Good to Go.  And congrats with your upcoming Marriage!

You forgot a copy of her house book registry. That is a required document to apply.

Thank you Joe, I've read so many of your posts, thanks for helping me!  Not having that registry would stop the show for sure.

Peter Denis, I feel like you deserve an invite to the wedding!  I'm in your debt.

Just make sure you get a proper marriage and not just a party with a few monks.

Get it on paper.

Yes, he would need to have the official Thai marriage papers applied for at an Amphur with the proper documents the Amphur requires.  Best to enquire beforehand at a local amphur near you what they require for your Thai marriage.  As usual in Thailand the requirements may differ depending on where you apply.  So if one amphur is difficult, it is worth enquiring at another one.
