More fruits to be produced this year

Phang Nga Governor Winai Buapradit says more fruits such as mangosteens, rambutans, longkongs, and durians will be produced this year than last year due to proper spread of rainfall.

From May to August 2007, 8,630.5 tons of mangosteens will be produced and 8,557 tons will enter the market by the end of this month till mid-July. 3,838 tons of longkongs will also be harvested and will enter the market from this month to mid-August. Farmers will also yielded 4,386 tons of durians and they will be in the market at the same period as longkongs.

Nevertheless, the Provincial Agriculture Office of Phang-Nga has prepared a plan to prevent fruit prices from falling. The province is also finding new markets to support the increasing quantity of mangosteens. The Governor of Phang Nga says Tesco Lotus is willing to help support the fruit farmers in the province. He says the fruits will also be exchanged with the crops from the northeastern region of Thailand.
