Special Tourist Visa: 681 foreign tourists to visit Thailand in November

An upbeat governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand has said that 681 tourists will be visiting Thailand in November under the much heralded (though much criticised) Special Tourist Visa (STV) program.

Yutthasak Suphasorn said that 263 tourists had completed the 14 day quarantine requirement, 134 were currently in quarantine and 284 would arrive before the end of November.

The governor said that the TAT, THAi airways and hotels associations had been working on what he called the "Amazing Thailand Plus Special Package".

This was an all in one place service to make it easy for the tourists to get their air tickets, apply for their visa, find out about where to quarantine and book trips around the country once they are released.

The TAT data announced yesterday was correct as of 17th November.

Thailand would normally be welcoming around 3 million tourists in November but the pandemic has ended that.

Nation TV went with the upbeat message with a caption on their opening picture saying that Thailand was opening up to tourism. This was accompanied by a picture of the bankrupt THAI airline.

Other file pictures showed a westerner on the beach, one jumping for joy and smiling foreigners taking selfies at a temple.

There was also one beach snap of the rear end of a horse.

so each tourist needs to spend 4,405 times what they normally do and the problem is solved.

Blimey,  where will they all stay?

"Rear end of a horse", that about sums up the STV programme.

What is strange.

They make very clear that they prioritise CHI..... tourists but in every picture, you see westerners.

Is it, because we are better looking or the idea that Westerners are coming sounds more attractive.

Don't worry guys, this is gonna be a geometric progression - 41 in October, 681 in November, 11,000 plus in December, ... .

I am sure they will gratefully receive the bounteous gifts these intrepid adventurers bestow on the Thai people.

Give him his due. That's a whole 681 more than they had last month (allegedly).

681 "foreign tourists";

a.k.a  681 "Chinese tourists"?

Brilliant achievement as his goal was 300 tourists a week which would make 1,285 the goal for November. 681 arrivals would be 53% of target but the 681 would include include business people and retirees coming/returning to Thailand. How many of the 681 were tourists?

These are people on the STV so you won't get retirees, returnees and genuine businesspeople. They can come in on different visas. But you will get businesspeople pertaining to be tourists. You only have to look at the firt batch with the ever-changing dates, airport and hotel changes to realise they are not what most of us would describe as tourists!

The article leads with a photograph of what appears to be a Thai Airways plane that's about to  crash.

Quite appropriate for an article about foreign tourism in Thailand, lol.

Finally acknowledging that their dreams match the stuff that falls from the back end of the animal.

Consider the hard line of the government to what tourists need to go through to get to Thailand it's hardly surprising...

If they dropped those demands

I bet they would start counting by the millions...

I would have personally have been there already if not for the restrictions

Drop the querntine a those other difficulties a the tourist will coming no problems

Well they've done it, the Goose that laid the Golden eggs has well and truly been put to rest, Six years it's taken them, with a little help from the Covid hysteria of course, 20% plus of the economy gone and never coming back, and now those in their ivory towers are going to have to reap the whirlwind, because if they think that the poorly paid police and army are going to save them I think that they're in for a nasty surprise...  Sad days ahead for Thailand.

Should have said 'complete abject failure on STV's' - but I don't think Abject Failure is in the TAT dictionary

  • Popular Post

Pathetic attempt to pretend they are addressing a huge economic problem.

“TAT announced all data was correct”????.

Sure very easy to count  we seen 2 foreigners  infront of a temple and another tourist on some horse.. All data correct!

Well that's good news.  The STV filters out the riff-raff and brings in quality tourist who have lots of money.  When word of mouth gets around more and more quality tourist from overseas will be applying to come to Thailand.
The airlines should just take out economy class seats.  If you can't afford business class Thailand doesn't want you.  Those people don't offer much to the Thai economy anyway.
Keep up the excellent work Thailand!

So 700 out of 3 million usual tourists is a cause for celebration?

That's only 0.02 percent , not even 1 percent.
