Expats hailed! Foreigners living in Thailand called "heroes" for leading the way in Thai tourism recovery

After years of abuse, racist comments and being treated with not 1 iota of respect, some in Thailand are just now waking up to the enormous contribution that expats have made to Thailand and the Thai people. Many Thais, and their families, have being generously taken out of poverty and given new lives perhaps through marriage or employment.

But this new found awakening to expats will no doubt disappear when the country floats again.

It was quick, back to ''normal'' already

with foreigners banned from a public marathon supported by TAT

  • So, do these "heroes" qualify for any of these new government initiatives or do we still have to get our Thai partner's to book hotels in their names while we pay and take a back seat? Is it now easie

Thailand is still a magnet for tourists.  Theses experts are delusional, and now they appreciate expats.  Prove it by making the immigration process less troublesome

Has anyone told Immigration yet? How the expats have "saved the day" and deserve to be treated a bit more like responsible adults than naughty schoolchildren?

Oh dear, don't like the sound of that, increase of prices for expats on the way or increase in yearly extension fee...or both?

Immigration are too busy being naughty school children - the typical bully if you will demanding 'lunch money' from the strange looking foreigners in the school.

This article is a bit of fluff journalism. We are hardly heroes. That's an insult to people who really do go above and beyond the call of duty and save peoples lives.

I thought i was just a dirty farang.

Well..I have met quite a few “Farang” hero’s..So it’s not a new phenomenon.

They are usually <deleted> up in bars and making trouble..But still !

And my reward is....

I prefer to remain in the villain role. It's much more exciting. Being a hero is terribly boring... and you have to endlessly pose for these fake smiley photos with strangers all the time. As a villain at least you get a nice finger point.

That does not include Thaivisa posters.

Probably not!

Yes , I qualified to buy a useless 2nd insurance policy do I could renew my permission to stay this year. The accolades just keep on rolling in

I don't understand why so many are complaining about Immigration, I go once a year for 30 minutes and 90 reports on line which takes 5 minutes, what's the big deal ????????

Help immigration by using an agent .

They need feeding too

Just another day at the office dear!

Reminds me of the poem Tommy Atkins....apologies to Mr. Kipling, and the word in brackets is mine.

....But it's " Saviour of (this) country " when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An 'Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool - you bet that Tommy sees!

Yawn.
So what was I during the past few years when I was doing the same things I'm doing now ?

Oh right. I remember. Just a "dirty farang" that should be kicked out of the country to make room for all those "clean" Chinese tourists, right ? Just like we'll be (again) once they start letting all those "clean" tourists back in by the millions.

I see they've done little (or nothing) as far as the double pricing goes at most National Parks and Historic Sites. You're only a hero when you are paying 5-10 times the price of admission that a local pays.

That's a bit positive, for Thailand makes me smile.????

Lets challenge the TAT governor Yutthasak Suphasorn with the following task. Get all government-controlled tourist sites, temples, national parks etc. to charge the same access fees, irrespective of race, language, gender or religion. That, Khun Yutthasak, would encourage the rest of us to do more local tourism.

I can afford 20 times the Thai price but after having lived here for more than half my life, paid millions of Baht in direct taxes, I am not willing to go along with this apartheid skimming. Hence I do flatly refuse, without comment at the respective site, to visit such places.

Wondering, honestly, what the governor, the prime minister or any other person in decision-making capacity would say if all Thais would be charged 20 times as much as a UK citizen in any UK museum, show, facility ....

Just a thought, would certainly be a step in the right direction generating MUCH more revenue (and hence profit) at the end of the day. And, once the government has started that, the private sector will have to follow.

All those having lived in Thailand for 30+ years will be able to confirm, that it was even possible to get Thais to queue in banks and government offices; initially it was just a huge mess of loud wannabe-VIPs trying to squeeze themselves in front of the crowd towards the counter. Wonders never seize..........

They cannot.

With basically no first wave, no herd immunity and no vaccine.............Thailand cannot open up in 2021.

At best it looks like perhaps November 2021 before the borders can be opened a little bit.  Most likely January 2022 the borders can open, in time for Chinese New Year 2022.

Thailand will not be able to vaccinate the at risk population until late 2021, so no chance to open the borders up.

EU and USA will be back to normal by May 2021............  good herd immunity soon from solid 1st and 2nd waves and backed up by vaccination.

Flu and Covid vaccines will only offer 50% to 60% efficacy in the normal real world (not trials done with face masks and social distancing).............. so unless you had strong 1st and 2nd waves with lots of cases and lots of natural immunity..........you are in a bad place trying to rely only on a vaccine.

Nooooo, Iam sending my yearly bonus home... I don't want a low baht.

Ooohhh!!!  I feel slightly giddy now.

Well when I was there, they kept calling me "dirty farang" and asked me to get covid tests before I could rent an apartment.

You have heavily tinted glasses 2530. Marriage in Thailand for love? Sure there are a few but many are for economic progress. Emolument gives a better future.

So, you think expats sole contribution to Thailand  is only through bars,  getting hammered on Chang beer, massages and bargirls? A toroughly undeserved comment. This is your view of why expats are here for?  Wow......you need to come into the sunlight a bit more.

But then, it shows your rather twisted view of decent people and perverted mind.

Hope you continue to wear your nappies.

Unfortunately many expat farang (that is non tourists) who are under the impression their individual contribution to the Thai economy is a major influence, or acknowledged, anywhere other than their immediate vicinity, are fooling themselves.

Those directly connected may appreciate, and, yes, benefit from your presence, but lets not get carried away exaggerating the  influence on the wider community

If we are heroes, then maybe the unelected "PM" and his generals could stop treating us like criminals and

do away with this 90 day reporting nonsense.

I will sell baseball caps with

“ MAKE EXPATS GREAT AGAIN”

But red caps could be a bad idea?

 Maybe Yellow would be clever.????

Thank you Thailand. We are not heroes nor are we villains. We just live here too and are affected by the situation as are the Thai people.
