Expats hailed! Foreigners living in Thailand called "heroes" for leading the way in Thai tourism recovery

Featured Replies

I always knew I was a hero.

This confirms my suspicions.

So I can continue sleazing in the bar, drooling over teenage girls in skimpy outfits without any guilt whatsoever as Channel 3 says it's OK!

Cheers ears ????

  • So, do these "heroes" qualify for any of these new government initiatives or do we still have to get our Thai partner's to book hotels in their names while we pay and take a back seat? Is it now easie

Thailand is still a magnet for tourists.  Theses experts are delusional, and now they appreciate expats.  Prove it by making the immigration process less troublesome

  • Steady on!

I've shut down a little business, let go about 3 Thais and cancelled a commercial lease since COVID came.

I've done my bit, I'm averse to loss ????

8.2 million long term expats...

Where does that number come from?

That place where the sun never shines!

I'm disappointed about this.

I was really hoping to be lauded but now I've been fobbed off with a lowly hailing instead.

Makes me feel like Luke Cage.

The Irony of how long term stayers are viewed.  Money spent = Savior Expat.  No Money = Cheap Charlie and someone not wanted in the country.

Do we have to start wearing a cape now and our underware on the outside of our trousers?

I'm making my badge and cape today!  Somehow I always knew it...  ????

I shipped a swag of baht out of the country earlier this year, cleaned up! Thanks Thailand! :jap:

Doing my part...did two Bangkok staycations the past month and have 5 more trips booked around Thailand thru March...I'm already feeling a bit Promethian.

Probably not!

Or Thai prices into parks etc,

oops - sorry for one moment I thought we were important.....

Didn't realise that immigration was any problem at the moment, I was under the impression that the problem was Covid 19, restricted entry, quarantine requirements - maybe I have been misinformed.....

Slow down guys, maybe you should associate with a broader range of locals.

They must be getting pretty desperate, when they start praising foreigners

reality check.

I just read the channel 3 link.

Well,

Hailed?  Stretching it. A lot. Perhaps “grateful” would be more realistic.

Heroes? It did say that 80% of the 8.2 million long term expats have gone and the remaining (20%) of expats that remain have been “heroes” but with more of a “savior for some businesses” meaning IMHO.

Not sure where they pulled the figures from.

Leading the way in Thai tourism recovery?  Nah, a bit of artistic license by the translator having a bit of a laugh.

I see some posters have assumed they were talking about “farangs”. Well, no specific mention of hero whitey either.

Sorry to deflate all the heroes. I am sure your mothers are proud of you all though.
Calm down and keep it real.

Reality check please, number of expats is under 200,000........

From "dirty <deleted> farangs" to "heroes" in a week..that's not bad!

So... since we all are "heroes" now.... are we going to receive a recognition award? I mean, paying the same entry fee to tourist attractions and national parks would go a long way to help us appreciate our newly accorded "hero" status.

In your dreams.

why do you think they love us so much?

How much broader can you get than the Thai Government with their Hi-Spenders wanted, and low spenders or bad guys out words?  Saviors when we spend and not wanted apparently when we do not.  Go figure.

i traveled alot when the cases got down to 0. I was paying 1,500b a night for great resorts. It was a great time to travel.

wasn't long ago when they were getting hit with big sticks for being disease spreaders .........

We all can be heroes, just for one day. Bowie.

Your hero reward is 29 baht to the dollar.

And at the same time, tens of thousands can not afford the very expensive fees to get back to see their kids, wives,  pets, houses and yachts.

It's not their fault tens of thousands are skint.
