Netizens go bananas! Hi-So in a Porsche parks in a handicapped bay and does his shopping

Thai social media went ballistic after a handicapped people's rights group posted online.

A man in a yellow Porsche - who Accessibility is Freedom  said was the younger brother of a Hi-So - parked his multi million baht vehicle in a space designated for the handicapped.

He then went inside to do his shopping without a care in the world.

The incident appeared to have happened in the Jaran (Sanitwong) area of Bangkok at a supermarket known for its 24 hour opening.

A security guard when told just shook his head and muttered something about bad behavior not necessarily being connected to wealth.

One poster listed by Daily News said that if the guy had been able to park right in front of the supermarket doors, he probably would have done.

People parking in disabled spots is not uncommon.

It seems a lot / most people do care, but it takes a minority to make everyone look bad when there are 5 disabled spaces and all are occupied, are they really occupied by disabled people ?

This is where social media is most powerful - Good job !

In this case the type of car is only relevant as this behaviour exhibited by the ‘wealthy’ serves as an unfortunate example of how to act for those of less fortunate means and education and is thus mimicked throughout the Thai population.

Is there such a thing as a ‘disabled badge’ in Thailand - something to put in the windscreen of the car to show parking staff that a disabled person has a right to park in such a place. Some disabilities, i.e. heart difficulties etc are not easy to spot.

That said: any ‘disabled badge’ will be issued to those with connections and the system abused.

It is unfortunate that society has not yet matured.

Its not uncommon for people in the UK to abuse the ‘handicapped parking’ by claiming for the window badge when they don’t really need it - but for the most part it works.

I would rather walk a mile than do that......why are some people so staggeringly selfish?.......I would disown my own child if they did that.

According to a lot of members on here Thais are lacking the mental capacity to drive correctly.

This mental incapacity should, surely, be classed as a disability and entitle such drivers to use the disabled bays.

The outraged people don't have a Porsche. ????

It would be less if it was an old Nissan March.

Clearly judging by your comment, you are not disabled, you are just as bad as the Porsche driver.

I think the outraged people are wrong.. The driver is clearly handicapped.. Brain handicapped to be precise..

Just get a very bad, fresh driver on his first shopping trip try to park next to him...

Looks like he has parked hard up against the barrier on the passenger side....I'd be tempted to park hard up against the drivers side...

What he needs is a couple of nice, bright yellow wheel clamps to match his paintwork.

OMG........please take this down before non-Brits hear it.....or put in a disclaimer that it is a comedy program and not real people.

Those crunchy minty biscuits at the Charan Sanitwong Foodland supermarket are awesome... don’t get the orange ones ! :hit-the-fan:

I think quite rightly and yes sadly, he was just saying a "bog standard" car parked although obviously wrong would have probably not raised any interest or at least far less interest with people

Agreed...  the focus of the Netizen's outrage is perhaps fuelled by the fact that it was a wealthy person behaving so inconsiderately. Behaviour such as this is a ‘dog whistle’ to those searching for outrage at every step.

In this case the outrage is perfectly valid, however, I don’t think the story would have garnered such widespread outrage (as reported) if the car were a Honda Jazz etc...

He may well have a disabilty, just because he drives a porche, doesnot  mean he does not have a cardaic, respiratory or similar impairment

Has anyone considered that some disabled people do not have a visible disability?   Porsche or not, and as unlikely as most posters would like it to be, he could fall into that category.

In the early 90s a UK friend of mine in his 30's had an XJS, a heart problem and qualified for a blue disabled badge, to look at him no one would ever know that he was going to die young.

Maybe worse....

Yes it's bad.

No, they (rich snobs) don't think or care.

But most of the people on here commenting have been brought up in countries where we understand the rules about handicapped parking spaces. Thais have no idea, and let's note that there is another handicapped space available.

Fortuner drivers do this all the time and it's not news.

Muppets park at my 7Eleven more selfishly than this, and it's not news.

Isn't there something more exciting to moan about today?

Can't be much of a hi-so, eh?

Even I send the mae bahn out to do my shopping and my three year-old is now just about big enough to handle bringing daddy two large beers from the mom 'n' pop down the street. He's still a bit hit-and-miss with the eggs though.

Some years ago in US I recall some 16 yr old rich kid using defense of being rich ("affluenza") led him to be irresponsible as if it were a handicapping condition. Got 10 years probation.

"..Couch's attorneys had argued that Couch had "affluenza" and needed rehabilitation instead of prison, arguing that Couch had no understanding of boundaries as his affluent parents had never given him any" Sound familiar? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethan_Couch

Tranquilo hombres .. being a HiSo motor statistically it's due to get ripped in two trying to take out a power pole or ending up on its roof in a ditch shortly ..

sometimes we need to carry a bottle of brake fluid with us....

One of the many things I love about Thailand is most plazas I shop at have allocated supercar carparking.

It is very handy and always in a convenient location and they keep an eye on your car. Occasionally you get a pleb trying to park in the spots allocated for us but generally they do a very good job keeping them out.
