Air pollution in 14 areas around Bangkok and its vicinity once again hit dangerous levels on Thursday morning, with PM2.5 readings coming in at 34 to 57 micrograms per cubic metre (μg/m3), the Pollution Control Department reported.

Thailand’s standard for safe levels of PM2.5 (particles less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter) is 50 μg/m3.

The 14 areas are:

1. Thonburi district’s Intharaphithak Road (51 μg/m3)

2. Wang Thonglang’s Lat Phrao-Chokchai 4 Road (53 μg/m3)

3. Din Daeng Road (56 μg/m3)

4. Pom Prap Sattru Phai’s Krung Kasem Road (52 μg/m3)

5. Lat Krabang Road (52 μg/m3)

6. Prawet’s Srinakarin Road (52 μg/m3)

7. Klong San’s Charoen Nakhon Road (51 μg/m3)

8. Bangkok Yai’s Tha Phra intersection (57 μg/m3)

9. Phasi Charoen’s Petchkasem Road (52 μg/m3)

10. Nong Khaem’s Ma Charoen-Phetkasem 81 Road (53 μg/m3)

11. Om Noi subdistrict, Krathum Baen district, Samut Sakhon (54 μg/m3)

12. Pak Nam subdistrict, Mueang district, Samut Prakan (57 μg/m3)

13. Mahachai subdistrict, Mueang district, Samut Sakhon (57 μg/m3)

14. Bueng Kum’s Khlong Kum subdistrict (51 μg/m3)

People in areas where PM2.5 pollution is bad have been advised to stay indoors and monitor their health.

The PM2.5 situation can be followed via the Air4Thai.com website or smartphone app, or on bangkokairquality.com, the department said.

It is if the air quality is turning people into giants or shrinking buildings ...

Not just Bangkok.  Its the whole of Thailand tourism and relocation going up in smoke.  That includes medical tourism, general tourism, big fish tourism, retirement tourism.  I cant imagine any sensible tourist would welcome a balmy beach vacation in AQI 140! - most countries consider that highly toxic.  The corrupt minority might save a few baht on this years sugar crop but the larger tourist economy is doomed.

First it'll suffocate, and then it'll drown.

Happy New Year.

I am not a Thailand basher. I love the place, why else would I have chosen to live there for nearly 30 years, even extending a posting late in my career, for six years. I loved it, right up until the uncontrolled burning started in the late 90's, causing terrible pollution and, until I got throat cancer from continually breathing this filth, in 2013. IF you can, when you can, IF you have children, get out, but GET OUT ! When it is safe after Covid, we will be back for a week or two, for family reasons only. After that, my Thai wife and I will never return to LOS, ever again. Not my decision - HER decision ! The MIL is dying from lung cancer in C Mai. She does not smoke ! LOS is a totally failed state. My wife barely finished grade six, but even she knows that Thailand is finished. It is Christmas Day - the air here in our valley in Oz is clean and pristine at 0200, as Daddy-Santa delivers. Air pollution - what's that ?

Meanwhile  out in the countryside of Prachuap where I was  asked by head  of village  not to burn my crop and didnt , the other neighboujrs  carry  on burning theirs and their  rubbish

Happy toxic air pollution Christmas in Thailand everybody. Be sure to stay inside with the windows and doors closed and absolutely do not let the children play with their new toys or exercise out doors. Crop burning is more important than your health, thanks for chipping in.

When are they starting their famous water canons again?

Here in Koh Chang, lovely weather.
