  • I buy whole beans at Makro and the brand name is SOLE. It's 155 baht for 500 grams. Good coffee, good price.

  • I buy my beans from Bon Cafe, their 'All Day' coffee beans are about Bht500/kg. Can find Bon Cafe in most large supermarkets, though not always the beans, but option of going to the local Bon Cafe sho

I recall a lot of good words about Benjamit Coffee Roasters, a coffee shop facing the market at the south end of Buakhao and Pattaya Thai. I recall they would also do mail order? Did you ever try it and if so, how did it rate for you?

FWIW, their website fails security checks in Firefox, Chrome and Opera right now but here's the map info.

Yes.

Not much of a fan.

Cool vibe in the shop though.

OK, thanks. I never made it there while I lived in Pattaya so I can't pass any personal opinion. Maybe as good as any Amazon Cafe at any PTT pump station but with a far better ambiance.

Most people seem to disagree with me about that place though. Their espresso drinks are actually quite good but I buy beans to make French press coffee.

There is a nice Bon Cafe restaurant in Nakula that also sells commercial machines.

Thanks for the correction - I had never seen a Bon Cafe restaurant, so I mistakenly assumed that none existed at all. With your example setting me straight, let me rephrase my points to just say that (a) Au Bon Pain and Bon Cafe have no connection to each other beyond the common word "Bon" in their names, and (b) Au Bon Pain is primarily in the restaurant business, while Bon Cafe is primarily in the coffee supply business.

Totally different company. Au Bon Pain is an international cafe/bakery/restaurant chain, and Bon Cafe is a Thai supplier of coffee beans, ground coffee, and coffee equipment that does not run its own cafes.

Thanks for taking the time to educate me. BTW I was unhappy when ABP left The Avenue in Patts. A good meeting place. Liked the cheese pastry.

How do you like your coffee taste / roast grade?

If you like the standard dark roast with strong and sometimes bitter flavour, you can choose from most commercial brands as mentioned in the comments. I liked some of the Boncafe and Casino. Always recommend to buy beans and grind freshly.

Enormous difference in taste.

If you like single origin and / or light/medium roast with floral, sour or acid flavors you need to check out specialty roasters.

But it won't be cheap. Usually 200g for around 300 THB.
