How important is religion if you are marrying a thai woman?

I sometimes wonder what role does religion play when a western man marries a thai woman?

I met a woman online long time ago but we never met in person.  Last year I had seen her pics with the religious attire and head coverings related to a particular religion.  I was curious and asked her about the new clothes. She said that she  recently got married to a foreigner. She had to convert to her husband's faith and they were declared married as per the customs of her husband's faith by their religious leader after a small ceremony.

Do western men also need to get the wives converted to their faiths in order to get married ? There are loads of western countries. Is there any country where you need to get your lover converted before you are allowed to marry.

The funny thing is that when some months ago she had stopped sharing  pics with those religion/culture specific attire and head coverings. When i enquired she simply said my husband , him go back him country, have corona , no business, he finish marry me. Now i wait falang man for marry me.

I wished her good luck in her future endeavours and blocked her. 😂😂

I know Buddhist women who have converted to Islam to marry Islamic men.

And Buddhist men who have converted to Islam to marry Islamic women.

So I assume that to marry an Islamic you must convert to Islam.

I don’t personally know of any who have converted the other way.

Maybe somebody else has?

Not important at all in  most cases, so long as you are honest with each other.  I respect my wife being a devoted Buddhist, even if I think she is deluded.  I just keep my mouth shut, but I don't set foot in the temples when she goes. and she knows what I think about the vast majority of Thai Monks, which is very little.   We got that little issue out of the way very early in our relationship.

Indeed you are.  Those are countries, not religions.

Yeah me too.

And obviously they must be a virgin, as I wouldn’t want anything that had been soiled by another man.

If anyone knows a hot, busty, petite virgin Satanist Asian girl with a hymen, please send me a PM.

No. Anyway you list nations and nationalities. There are 5 major religions. Islam is strictest about conversion for marriage. Catholicism also but less so. Your question is borderline provocative troll and potentially seeking to stir division.

I think for many Thais the regular rituals are somehow important - at least for live in the villages.

Lots of things happen in the temple and on special Buddhist days.

And then there are the spirit houses and the Eriwan shrine and monks in the morning and all those other little things.

I am sure for many Thais that's just the way it is. It has little to do with religion and a lot to do with structured events.

Myself and my Thai spouse are both hardline Atheists.

There is never any talk of anything remotely religious in our house.

Nothing ever with spirit houses, monks, ghost, sacred trees, special numbers for the lottery, anything like that?

Thai woman are not toys.  Until you understand that, you will be treated as an ATM.  Once past that, you will be treated like a prince.  And Buddhism isn't into conversion.  Study the religion and understand it.  There is a lot to learn.   Islam would be a problem.   Unless you are into Islam for Islamic sake, stick to Buddhist woman.  They are wonderful and there faith is accepting of you, whevever you come from spiritually or geographically.

I'm from Oz, there was no conversion of any kind, we got married in a registry, two witnesses and then the party at a Greek Tavern with about 20 close friends.

Also married here a month later in the village, registered later at the Amphur, I didn't convert either.

I am not into religion, neither is my wife, although I am told that the stories are fascinating, you know the guy who made a blind man see in one religion, the other I heard says you get 74 virgins when you get to heaven and so on, but for us, our faith is our love to each other, you know, love you long time honey and all that 🙂

It depends on the Thai, and depends on your religion.

If your religion calls for you to give away all your money to those that ask, you'll be fine.

If it calls for you to sleep with every woman in the town, less so.

I have been living with a muslim girl for 5 years. If we marry i must become muslim so thats not going to happen. She is very westernized, pork, beers, whisky etc.

But even if i take her overseas to be married its not recognized in a muslim country unless im muslim.

She is less religious than my western girlfriends and hates that she has no choice,

Rules at the dining table with anyone, never talk about religion or money.

My American friend was totaled in a motorcycle accident in the South. Couldn't work or take care of himself (go out shopping etc, this was before mobile Apps) for nearly 6 months.

The local Buddhist Thais did nothing for him, the local muslims would call in every day to do his shopping and make sure he was okay etc.

A lovely old Jewish lady I knew in London used to use the services of a local Pakistani taxi driver to help with shopping, visits to the hospital etc. when her son was away working

He treated her like she was his own Mum, helping carry her bags, assisting her along paths etc. and would never even accept a penny extra on the fare. He was always available except on Fridays - he was a very devout Moslem, performed the Haj as well.

The old lady's son referred to the taxi driver as "brother"

When she died, the taxi driver was invited to attend the funeral. He declined saying he'd be too upset. I actually think it was his way of avoiding going into a synagogue  but who the hell cares about religion....it's how you live your life that counts.

My take:    "All religion is a foolish answer to a foolish question" - Peaky Blinders.

no i am not.

i was genuinely interested in knowing what the western countries are like . I have seen lot of western men with thai/filipino wives and was wondering if the marriage is recognised in western nations if both follow different religions.

But it appears  religion doesn't matter in getting your marriage registered and live legally as husband and wife.

True, they are very simple and kind hearted, but even malaysian muslims dislike the arabs which most islamaphobia racism  is based on.

Yes the govt is corrupt. They have had the same govt since the british gave them self rule so that breeds corruption. But new govt voted in first time. Its volatile but changing.

you may want to search a guy the govt really wants. Financier of The Wolf of Walll Street. Jho Low.

Yes u must be circumsized to marry and they will check.

My gf is also circumsized. In africa they cut the clit. Malaysia they do not. They put a very small cut on the cover of it to expose it. Like 2mm. U cant notice.
