Acceptance of migrants in Thailand

I've just come across a chart from Statista with a ranking of "The Countries Most And Least Accepting Of Migrants". I was kind of expecting to see Thailand rank somewhere in the middle, but it's actually in the bottom ten!

"Respondents were asked whether they think migrants living in their country, becoming their neighbors or marrying into their families are good or bad things. "

Expats rarely are migrants. For some reason, many expats in Thailand think they are migrants. They are not.

A very small number of foreign people have become Thai citizens.

People who cross borders illegally are not migrants. They are criminal illegal aliens.

We would have to know what the question which they actually asked Thai people was, because depending on which term you use for "migrant" you will get quite different answers.

Just looking at the current news articles, the news sites use "migrants" mostly for "foreign labor workers" if they used this term it would of course result in vastly different results compared to using for example the term "foreigner" or even "farang".

But in general Thais are quite xenophobic, so this result isn't much of a surprise.

That's very cute, but if you've ever gone 1 unit above the speed limit, littered, sworn in public, touched someone without consent, made someone fear or feel harassed, and so on, you too are likely a criminal.

It's a little meaningless, especially when paired with "illegal immigrants", and suggests you just want to make illegal immigrants look as bad as you can.

Er, but they crossed into Myanmar illegally in the first place, so they committed a criminal going both ways.
