Daily News reported that migrant workers from Laos and Myanmar were shocked to find that their condo was sealed off by barbed wire yesterday and they were forbidden to go out or enter without permission.

The extraordinary measures were enacted after orders from the Nonthaburi governor Sujin Chaichumsak following a spike in cases in the province that borders the capital Bangkok. Twenty one more cases were reported taking the total to 58.

The "pink condo" and areas in Moo 5 and Moo 6 including the Bang Yai market were placed under the highest level of restrictions - Red. The rest of the province is in the second tier or Orange level of alert.

Yesterday evening deputy governor Nisakorn Wisitsorn-at went with the Bang Yai police chief and a contingent of seventy soldiers and police to the seven story condo in Moo 6 that has been ordered sealed off until January 1st.

They placed barbed wire and set up a checkpoint, said Daily News. The condo is home to many migrant workers from Laos, Myanmar and the Thai Yai ethnic group.

They had interpreters with them to explain the governor's order saying they could only go out with permission.

Wider restrictions are also in place in the Bang Yai City area until January 12th with places such as banks and convenience stores subject to severe restrictions.

Thaivisa notes that many foreign migrants feel they are being unfairly singled out by the authorities as Thailand is now gripped by a new wave of Covid infections.

There's a movie that explores this issue, albeit to a more extreme level, "Containment" I think it's called, free on You Tube and worth a look in these Covid19 lock down days, if you're at a loose end and feel the need for some slightly relevant divertissement.

Great.  Not much room for GDPR in Thailand. And likely will ever have any Muslim invasion from Africa or the Middle East like Europe has.
Some governments need to choose their battles.
People has to wake up and understand that their is no country or place that has soft control on things + good social benefits + open borders that will be a great place or will be safe in today’s world. The whole world is full of mentalists and people who won’t listen to anyone.

People are flocking to where ever it’s best to be but the problem is the same everywhere; they don’t belong there and because of that won’t feel they need to protect that place or that country. Only by being from a country or area a human will feel it’s their own backyard and it needs to be protected and cared for 100% by themselves.

In a smaller scale you can use Phuket as an example. All the people from around Thailand and the world doesn’t care a dime about this place. Thai thugs show up to rob the place and foreigners. No one gives a damn about it. Killings shootings robberies hit murders you name it. They all say the same; we don’t care it’s not our home. I am here to make money.

What is needed by central Government is an order that NO ONE in Thailand moves more than 5 kilometres from

their living quarters nor can move across any province border by ANY MEANs.

This would at least keep some isolation, not this kind of racist action

Its been a devastating week or two for the farangs that have been bragging for months about how Thailand is superior to western countries.  And to top it off now this.

Considering the massive loss of face these farangs have suffered perhaps some self imposed time away from posting to reflect on how they blew this so badly is in order.

A somewhat incoherent post full of false assumptions and  silly generalizations and really strange exaggerated claims. I know of no westerners who feel loss of face due to the recent reversal of Thailand's covid situation. Devastated? No. Disapointed: yes...Bragging? Where? Superior to western countries? Where is this ever stated?...'And to top it off now this...'...Now what? That the Thai authorities enforced quarantine in a way the Swizz wished they could have...

Its a sad story and for some shocking..but nothing to do with western foreigners. No need for shame nor any need to withdraw from posting.

Thailand the country regressioning back to feudal 18th century.

In some ways it has not evolved so it can't regress, e.g. the very strict hierarchical structure of businesses, family and friends, the showing of local government uniforms (even teachers) to assert authority once a week and even at minor events, etc. The requirement for school children to wear nationally proscribed uniforms and for boys to have military style haircuts that date back 100's of years. Enough said.
