Thailand to get 2m doses of vaccine from Feb: Anutin

The first batch of 2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine will arrive in Thailand from February, said Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Thursday.

 

The first group of Thais to be vaccinated will be community public health volunteers, as they are in the front line of the virus battle, said Anutin. He has instructed the Food and Drug Administration to prepare regulations for the vaccine's approval.

 

Anutin did not identify the manufacturer of Thailand's first batch but said the ministry had negotiated a purchase price of US$17 per dose. Next week it will ask the Cabinet to approve a Bt1.17 billion budget for procurement of the 2 million doses.

 

The ministry had also made efforts to procure vaccine fromas many sources as possible, said Anutin.

 

The ministry is negotiating with AstraZeneca for an additional 26 million doses on top of the purchase agreement in November for the first batch of 26 million doses.

 

Thailand is currently struggling with a fresh outbreak of the virus.

heaven help us all if this maskless hypocrite, the HEALTH minister no less, ever gets the top spot in the country

just yesterday they have approved 1.6bln for an unspecified vax, the next weak another 1.17bln for unspecified vax.

why this secrecy, lack of transparency?

$17 per shot is quite much, the top of what in Europe they are buying (and selling).

 

Already 6bln was spend on astrazeneca. Looks, like another 6bln for this same company. They would be in the second part of 2021.

 

money is flowing fast, but no vaccines

Thailand is part of COVAX. Part of their policy is non-transparency.

Also keep in mind that these vaccines generally require two doses.

So in general, divide by two.

So these numbers are needless to say -- NOT IMPRESSIVE. 

My understanding was that all vaccines were going to be provided at cost, ie. Manufacturers do not make profit but cover expenses. They only variable should be transportation costs. And if they've gone for the American one initially needs to be stored at -70°c,choc dee with transporting that to outlying provinces.

I have a feeling that the people might prefer something other than the Chinese vaccine.

They ordered 26 million doses of the Oxford vaccine from UK but I speculate the Oxford vaccine will go to the richest people while the poor will probably get some shady Chinese one.

COVAX as a response to aid poorer countries most definitely has merit but it is quickly becoming politicised, and of course they are gambling that the cheaper vaccines will be as safe and effective as those to be provided by Pfizer, BioNTech etc.  I'm guessing he would of name dropped in a New York second if they were going to use something from the front runners.

In my view this is for sure a Chinese vaccine.

 

Nobody else can offer anything........... Pfizer, Moderna and Ox/Az are all booked up.  Russian has limited Sputnik and not exporting yet.  Only China is looking for guinea pigs to tests its many many vaccines on.

They supposedly have three that have been used in their country under an emergency status and at least another three that are being "tested" in a number of other countries.

The German/American Pfizer BioNTech vaccine needs -70°c refrigeration. 

 

The American Moderna vaccine uses standard refrigeration and can be stored at room temperature for up to 12 hours during administration.

Personally I will have the Oxford vaccine.  Its old fashioned proven technology.   I will not have these brand new RNA vaccines.  Thats my personal choice.

 

China has just approved the Sinopharm vaccine.........most likely the 2 million is this one.

That's good enough for now.  UK is only giving 1 dose of the AstraZeneca one and not trying to reserve enough to cover a second dose.  They are saying you can wait up till 12 weeks for the 2nd dose so they probably figure they will have enough on hand by then.

2 million doses not going to go far, that's only 1 million people, by the time all government ministers & hangers-on get it, and all the Generals in the Army, and there under dogs, don't think there will be many doses left for health workers, but the amount of money floating with these purchases I suspect there will be some very large brown envelopes floating about... 

Why is the Health Minster the only one in the picture with NO MASK?

More than likely it will be a Chinese vaccine. Thailand has become the United States of China after all ... why wouldn't they reach out to their masters?

He can shove it up his <deleted> ass the <deleted>! I want to see him and Prayut take the stuff into their veins first. If they do that publicly there will be a good chance that they are only doing glucose shots, they going to want to test it in others first, and I bet it will be the poor before the rich just like he said. They are the least important when there are side effects no one knew about. 

I will gladly pay a premium for the US/German vaccine in Feb before I have to make a trip back to CA. Not taking the Chinese or Russian vaccine even if free

The Turkish couple with German passports, also called the BioNTech, together with Pfizer have guidelines for the vaccine. 

 

     It doesn't matter where they buy it from, BioNTech, Moderna, or AstraZeneca, I have my doubts that Thailand can handle the cooling chain from production line to the  hospitals, clinics and doctors.

I receive two different medications each month that both should not be stored over 10 degrees Celsius. 

 

It's written on the package and it's obvious that they are storing it at 20 to 35 degrees.

 

 I saw where they pulled it out, in a room that isn't even airconditioned.

 

I've tried to tell them that they store it wrongly, but what does a Farang know?

 

In one month, the virus can easily mutate into something that's not treatable anymore, or the vaccination doesn't help for a particular strain.

 

Nobody really knows it now, they only come up with assumptions that the first one could also work for the mutated virus.

if i was paying out all that money id like to know what i was buying.so its COVAX and its non transparent,nonsense you pay that money someone knows what they are getting and what theyre paying for it. its really that simple.all other countries seem to know.and as we continue down that street the do do thickens and undoubtably leads to some bank acc somewhere that.........
