Hi all,

I plan to enter Thailand within the next few months on a 60 day tourist visa, which I would then extend for a further 30 days.

My question is around what happens if I want to stay beyond that, with regards to the 60 Day COVID extension.

Do I really need to get a letter from my embassy in Thailand confirming that it's not possible to fly back home in order to secure a 60 Day COVID extension? What happens if it is possible to fly back home and the embassy won't offer a letter?

Since a "visa run" is not an option during a pandemic, would I really have to leave Thailand and go back home after the 90 days of the TR visa + TR visa extension runs out?

Thanks in advance.

Currently embassy letters are not required.

You may be able to obtain 60 day extensions due to Covid situation. Many people currently are. In many cases they can fly back to home country. Most imm offices are not asking to see proof of cancelled flights etc. Bangkok being one example.

I am not sure if the 60 day covid extensions will be available after the 29th of the this month when the order for the them expires. I think it may be extended again for a few more months.

No letter from your emassy is required at this time. You complete a affidavit immigration will give you that has tick boxes for the reason you need the extension.

Do you think it's likely that they will only stop the 60 day covid extensions once borders are open for visa runs again?

I'm worried that there might be a period of time where there's no covid extension available and no possibility for visa runs either.

Since the 60 day covid extensions apparently a replacement for the amnesties I think it will be extended again unless the country opens up. But they may stop doing them for those that arrived after a certain date.

In a similar situation to OP except already here.  We arrived Dec.18th on a 60 day TR visa.  Now that we are out of quarantine we can go and get an extension from immigration.  Is it possible to apply for a 60 day Covid extension rather than the normal 30 day?  If not and we go next week on Jan. 14th and can only get a normal 30 day extension, would we be able to apply for a further covid extension before Jan 29th deadline?  Thanks for any info and apologies for being clueless on the visa  rules.

Thai friend checked with Immigration at Muang Thong Thani yesterday and was told that a 60 day Covid Tourist Visa is available and that a letter from my embassy is "needed."  In September i filled out a web-form on the  US Embassy website and the letter was emailed to me.  Now i cannot find the form requesting the letter on the website.  Anyone US citizen renew tourist visa recently either with or without a letter from the embassy?  Anyone know if a letter is still available and, if so,  where to find?

He was given false info. A letter from the embassy is not required and the embassy does not do them anymore.

From embassy website.

All that is needed is a completed affidavit they will give you to complete.

This is not true of all offices - Hua Hin for example are not providing the affidavit - they are asking for the Embassy letter - if you can't provide that then they will accept a copy of a letter issued before Embassies stopped issuing them and already used for a previous Covid extension application OR they will accept proof that you sent a email to your Embassy asking for the letter

I am just stating what the official requirements are.

I wonder that the would do if you had the completed affidavit already. Download of it. 60 Day Covid 19 Extension Affidavit.pdf229.8 kB · 81 downloads
