This just shows that the plonkers supposedly running this place have absolutely no idea.

One of them reckons there are no gambling dens here, main honcho says hey are going to stamp it out, just more BS, at least all the BIG plod bosses got there 15 minutes in the spotlight.

There is no prostitution either!!

How many of your brit friends compulsively buy lottery tickets or bet on sports games?

Er ....none actually since you ask. And pointing out a fact is not bigotry, Ask anyone who has been to Sihanoukville or find out what is happening over the river at Mae Sot.

The reason gambling is illegal in China is because for all their faults , the CCP recognize this fact .

I also had a very attractive Filipna girlfriend , but she did not gamble. Unfortunately, her future Filipino husband was hopefully addicted to horse racing and got into heavy debt. In the end he stole 11,000 pounds from the post office and fled to the USA.

Later , missing his family , he returned to the UK where he asked my mother for advice which was that it would look a lot better if he voluntarily turned himself in to the police before he was caught. He did this and was lucky to only be sentenced to a year in an open prison.

Political correctness has become a kind of bigotry in a class of its own whereby the politically correct try to browbeat anyone who dares to suggest that different cultures or races have different customs and vices.

the average wage is 300 baht a day.  youtube and whatever shows them rich people all the time....rich, super rich, the richest...

people love money, hate really working.   they have one chance, strike it rich...maybe that is their fate.

when you get older you realize how dumb it is....nobody knows any outcome, unless you are soooo connected it's not gambling it's a sure thing.  then you lose on the sure thing.  lol

yea, disease.  horrible.   but there are some deeper problems with the brain needing some endorphin or something......

This is Thailand's future if it's not stopped right now...... Thailand will just become like Cambodia, a Chinese Casino ........    I wonder if they've checked with the CCP if it's ok to arrest "Chinese High Rollers" ?   ......  I'm looking forward to when farangs will be begged to come back into Thailand and save them from all this pie in the sky dreaming of raping the Chinese.......   Trouble is, once you've forgotten where you came from, you're out at sea without a rudder..........

Nobody was tipping them off that the big guns are coming?

Probably didn't pay any "envelope fee".

No they were sacrificed to impress their leaders that they were doing their job, and particularly now while under the spotlight.  And if it has to be done then it has to be one of the games that are comprised mainly of foreigners so as to retain the Thai's 'good reputation' but also to ensure that no "dont you know who I am?" types get caught up in the raid.

interesting post.  I remember taking a short trip to southern china back in the 80's when China first opened up.  I was chatting with a tour guide who told me that people were somewhat accepting of their position in China until the introduction of TVs allowing them a window to the outside world.  When small portable TVs became available and some areas of China were able to pick up TV stations from places like Macau, Hong Kong etc, they became aware of how the outside lived.  Outside people lived in big houses often with a room each person while whole families shared one room in China.  Often 2 cars per house whereas in China you were lucky with two bicycles.....etc.  People then became discontented with their lot and that became the beginning of hordes of Chinese wanting to leave.

I think gambling is a way people think they can quickly improve their lot but unfortunately people dont know where to stop.  It becomes a disease.  Enough is never enough or you are chasing your tale trying to pay for your losses.

Only places that are being busted are the ones that aren't paying for police protection. In Ubon, we have a couple of dens who advertise 100 baht free bet coupons without fear of recrimination - right smack bang in the middle of the city. Everyone knows about it but nobody gets in trouble. Corruption is the issue, not gambling.

Every policeman worth his salt in Chonburi and Pattaya was in attendance this morning in a very well publicized raid of a gambling den in two rented rooms of a Jomtien condo.

All the top brass were there flexing their muscles in a show of force against foreigners, illegal gambling and most of all, flagrant disregard for the Covid-19 regulations.

The raid at 1 am in Sai 2 was led by Region 2 chief Maj-Gen Thiti Saengsawang accompanied by the head of the Chonburi provincial police Pol Col Ekkaphop Inthaweewat.

There were also men from all three local Pattaya constabularies - the Pattaya force itself, Nong Prue and Bang Lamung.

International crime officers swelled the ranks of the raiding party.

Arrested were 21 gamblers - 14 Chinese, 5 Thais, I Cambodian and one Singaporean. Taken into evidence were gambling tables, cards and chips.

Ekkaphop said this was a state and national RTP measure against the spread of the virus. He said that the gamblers - most of them foreigners - had a flagrant disregard for the spread of the virus.

They were playing poker style games.

Two rooms on the fifth floor of the building - 517 and 518 - had been rented on a daily basis.

The inquiry would be expanded.

We Love Pattaya reported that five of the Chinese were on overstay and the Cambodian had entered Thailand illegally.

They will all be facing charges related to both gambling and contravention of the Covid emergency decree.
