When a toxicology report revealed that Amelia Bambridge had the “date-rape” drug GHB (Gamma Hydroxybutyrate) in her system, questions were raised as to whether she was “spiked” with the drug before she went missing on Koh Rong in October 2019. The British backpacker’s body was found in the ocean a week after she was last seen, close to Thailand and around 100 kilometres from Police Beach.

The United Kingdom-based The Daily Mirror released the findings of the toxicology report in an article published last December, which also revealed the presence of MDMA (Ecstasy/Molly) and MDA (methylenedioxyamphetamine) in Bambridge’s system. Khmer Times investigations revealed that it’s possible that Bambridge willingly took a tablet that contained both MDMA and MDA the night she went missing.

It’s very likely that these drugs were readily available on Koh Rong, according to expats who were there at the time. Before COVID-19 hit the island, Police Beach was known as a place where ecstasy could be purchased. According to an article in the Journal for Forensic Sciences, MDMA and MDA, can be found in the same tablet. Both substances produce feelings of euphoria.
