The prime minister on Wednesday gave the green light to a new remedial measure – “Rao Rak Kan” (We Love Each Other) – for beneficiaries of the state social security system.

Labour Minister Suchat Chomklin said initially social welfare cardholders will receive a cash handout via the Pao Tang application. This package will cover all social security beneficiaries, except those who have more than Bt500,000 in their bank account.

The minister added that the amount people earn per month will not be a criterion, as it may cause problems in the workplace.

Suchat said people should receive between Bt3,000 and Bt4,500 per month under this scheme. He did not specify how many months this scheme will be in operation.

Details of the package will be worked out by Friday before it is proposed to the Cabinet next week, he said, adding that it should go into operation by March.

He said about 9 million of the 11 million social security scheme members are expected to be eligible. The scheme only applies to Thai nationals who have less than Bt500,000 in their bank account.

Hope it does more than the "Let's Go Halves" scam! ????
