4MyEgo
Been having bloating issues all of my life every now and again, i.e. certain foods trigger my stomach to bloat, not sure which ones. Irritable bowl syndrome (IBS) sounds like the obvious, however this time it's been close to two weeks and I look like I am going to give birth. No problems going to the toilet regularly, just uncomfortable trying to fit into my shorts/trousers/underwear and putting shoes on. I don't have any discomfort apart from that, however about a week ago, I woke up in the early hours of the morning with a sort of burning pain and couldn't go back to sleep for a couple of hours. Went to the chemist in the morning, discussed and they gave me some anti-biotics, after two days seemed to get better, but today, day 5 and last day on antibiotics, the bloating is back full on, albeit it didn't go away but wasn't so noticeable. Could it be the change in weather as crazy as that sounds as in the past when it rained, it seems as if the stomach bugs start to party sometimes and my stomach would bloat, crazy I know. Looking at going to hospital tomorrow as I think it might be something else, don't know what, leaky gut, however would like to know what it actually is for once and for all so as to stay away from whatever triggers it, if that is at all possible. I do have some reflux at the moment, and would just like to hear what others think as I read it could a number of things, e.g. a chronic or other serious condition ?. Thanks for any constructive suggestions/recommendations.
Pilotman
Me too, as I suffer from diverticulitis and colitis. On the recommendation of my UK medico, I stared using Pepto Bismol and I find that it helps a lot. Also look to your diet. Google has some good advice on what to avoid. 1

Popular Post Buffy Frobisher
Mate, go to the hospital and get yourself checked out thoroughly. 15 years ago I had very similar symptoms - the really uncomfortable bloating for no apparent reason for quite a long period of time (though that could also be lactose intolerance if you're drinking a lot of milk), the reflux which I'd kinda had all my life but it just felt a bit different this time, and then waking up with sharp pains which was the point that I went to the doc. He thought it might just be a gastric thing, but fortunately decided to do some scans just to be sure when I was complaining about persistent sharp pain on my right side (strange, because the problem turned out to be on my left side). That was the best decision anyone's ever made for me: an hour later he was telling me that I had a growth the size of a grapefruit on my abdominal wall, which, after surgery two hours later, turned out to be Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. I should be dead were it not for the early discovery, but he took out large parts of me where it had spread to (no need for details here) and blasted me with radiation for 5 weeks, and today I'm healthier than I've ever been. And sober - he told me that my alcohol consumption had likely triggered the pancreatic cancer (usually booze and/or cigs) so these days it's nothing more than a single beer or wine, nothing harder. Good luck - I hope you feel better soon with nothing major to report. 3
bkk6060
Hopefully not, but bloating over a period of of time could be a more serious issue. Do get it checked out. Edited February 9, 2021 by bkk6060
Popular Post scammed
its a clear correlation from overeating and beer drinking, eat just 2 times a day and no beer and it is almost certain to go away, downside is life sucks in another way then, but at least you know which poison you take and why Edited February 9, 2021 by scammed 2
from the home of CC
don't forego the checkup. If it proves do be somewhat benign your gut bacteria may be out of whack. When I had these symptoms I went for the kimchi (which I detest). It didn't take much (tablespoon a day for a couple of weeks) to feel normal again. Sauerkraut would work the same but I couldn't find it - has to be the kind they keep refrigerated, not the dead stuff on the shelf. I also now eat okra regularly which helps also (on advice from a doc).

Other vinegars available I subscribe to Dr Berg and to be honest, the more I think about a video I saw a few weeks back of his saying we need more potassium, i.e. at least 7 cups of veggies a day, so I changed my diet to include steamed veggies and salads once twice a day, maybe the gut is having a problem breaking them down, because I know greens like Chinese broccoli or basil bloat me for a fact, also garlic and I know I am lactose intolerant, as for the apple vinegar, have tried that as well before. It's all a hit and miss things, but have just instructed the boss to forgo any veggies including salads for a week to see how we go. My biggest problem is I love foods, clean foods, and sauces, I am a mild beer drinker as well. I think I am going to have to just "focus" on what I put in my mouth over the next week and see how the bloating goes, if it persists, then go to the hospital for a thorough check up. Thanks one and all on your contributions.
Popular Post Sheryl
This isn't something that can be diagnosed over the internet Too many possible causes May not be "bloating" as such. Could be ascites (fluid accumulation) which in turn can have many causes, all pretty serious See a doctor 9

Popular Post Poet
Obviously, see a doctor, but also take some steps of your own. Eat less, walk more, protect your sleep, spend less time online. Pause drinking for one week, just to see if it helps. Pause meat for just one week. Reduce salt and MSG. Reduce sugar, just in case inflammation is exacerabating your condition. Consider fasting for one day - it is easier than it sounds. Just to explain the sleep thing, consistently getting a full eight hours of uninterrupted sleep at the same time each night helps your system deal with sugar more effectively, and reduces your gravings for sugar. It could be that just one of the above small steps will be the key that allows your system to bounce back, just hard to know which one will be most appropriate. Each will, however, make you feel a bit better. 4
sirocco
Hello, I wouldn't want to speak ill of it, but when I read on the forums what some Internet users eat or drink, I tell myself that before trying to cure one's ailments, they should be avoided. No need to stuff yourself with unhealthy food (cheap cheese, but made with powdered milk, flour, agar, food coloring etc ...) of nitric acid vinaigrette, or mayonnaise, in a jar. Homemade is excellent. Palm oil or even olives at very, very low prices. There is a lot of food you can eat, but quality, not quantity. As for wine, what could be nicer to drink a glass of real vine wine with meals. But not a flavored wine or a variety of fruits (or flowers). Who tells you that your stomach will put up with hibiscus or blueberry. Eating in normal amounts, sometimes with some excess, is even recommended for a happy life. Now....
Tracyb
IMHO I think you’re playing with fire if you forego a complete medical check up at a first class hospital. Time is of the essence.
cucme
No alcohol for a while might help. Also avoid fish and meat. Make yourself Mathum tea and have a zip every morning and when you feel you need one. Mathum iéa is made from Bael fruit. Works wonders. Mathum tea: boil some for a couple of minutes. Strain it and keep it in the fridge. I do not add sugar. Good luck. 1

It does also help with others putting their input in. The above said, I did notice that I increased and added broccoli and cauliflower into my diet of late, prior to that had chick peas, and slowly increased my beer intake over those two weeks, now all of the above will cause bloating. Today I have taken magnesium supplements and am drinking ginger tea and had toast with jam and taking some air-x citrus tasting chewable tablets, all of which have helped. No one knows their body than those who are in it, doctors can look for symptoms, and prescribe something for what they might feel is the problem or might be lucky enough to find the problem straight away. I have had this before, it's a trigger caused by food, garlic, onions, and certain things like broccoli, however I rarely think about it or try to pinpoint the cause and if I do I usually forget and cop it again down the track, same with the wife, she knows the triggers and also forgets and gives me what triggers my bloating, only problem this time it was prolonged because I added broccoli into my meals twice a day and didn't give it any thought, my bad and I suffered for it, suffice to say, I am now eliminating foods and drinks that are associated with bloating and will keep an eye on it, yes a gluten for punishment, and if things don't improve (which they have today), I will go to the hospital to see the Doctor and get a full working to solve it for once and for all. Generally speaking the bloating usually last 2-3 days, but this time with being busy and not focusing on what could have caused it and kept adding broccoli and cauliflower to my changed diet, f'd me harder than usually, i.e. 14 days ???????? millymoopoo
I've suffered bloating all my life (until 5 years ago) didn't even know it was bloating, just thought it was normal. 5 years back I was recommended a 'blood type' diet. I took it up (maybe stick to it 90%) and not looked back. No bloating, better sleep, better wake ups in the morning, better overall health, even slightly reduced weight, now stable at 75kg. Some say it's <deleted>, some say it works, I say proof of the pudding it in the eating. Give it a go, probably need to stick to it at least 80% for a few years, then compare with how you were previously, you won't ever know if you don't try.! Probably helpful to give away alcohol, ciggies, snack/junk food and sugary soda pop. Eat what your grandmother did, whole foods with little if any preprepared/packaged foods. https://www.webmd.com/diet/a-z/blood-type-diet https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/the-blood-type-diet-review#TOC_TITLE_HDR_2

I don't smoke, and eat clean, very conscious as to what goes in, too conscious for that matter, mostly proteins, mainly omega 3 fish, chicken and meat every now and again, veggies, salads, no sodas of any kind, half a dozen small beers a week, nuts, fruits. I think once one steps out of the usual diet and adds something into the mix that has been working, there in lay the truth in the pudding, so I in the elimination process as of today, coffee out, ginger tea in, broccoli and cauliflower out, chick peas out, beer out for a week of more if it hasn't changed things. So far today it's been a fast till 9.30am except for a ginger tea, then a jam sandwich, followed by another ginger tea, and a magnesium tablet. Lunch was grilled chicken breast on two pieces of bread, and a ginger tea after, so far so good, tonight will be grilled fish and a ginger tea. The discomfort has subsided as has the bloating, a few noises in the tummy here and there every now and again, but the air-x chewable citrus tablets seem to stop that. Will definitely stay away from stuff that I don't usually eat because it can turn out just as bad as a bad women after the even ????

It's always tricky trying to pinpoint the cause, I know when I had gastritis, many things were making it worse, once it improves a lot of those things are fine. So once feeling better, try new things one at a time and see the reaction
