A few months ago, I remember brand new laptops with international warranty being sold in Pantip.

Not an unknown brand. I believe it was either Toshiba or HP or Compaq.

I have one girlfriend who has one, and she got it (Compaq) for 13,900 brand new. It works fine for her purpose.

Haven't seem them lately.

Anyone know what happened to them?

Aren't prices supposed to be going down instead of up?

i saw a laptop at bigC north pattaya yesterday for around that money not sure what brand though

My guess is these are old machines, end of line, probably with single core processors etc

You can get cheap laptops at Lotus/big-c/carefour , they usually have promotions between 17 and 18.000 bath.
