Permanent Resident Certificate Or Permit?

Featured Replies

I've been in CM for past 7 years on a non-imm retirement visa, which I just re newed. Lady with immigration police suggested I get a permenant resident permit. Have been considerting going the PR route, but do not know what would the benefits be or if there are any drawbacks or pitfalls.

I would want to apply at the Chiang Mai immigration and save me a trip to BKK.

Have read all the treads on TV about permenant residence, but dont see anything that specifies what the benefits or drawbacks are?

Another example of Immigration officers giving bad information.

Even with 7 years on a retirement visa you will not be able to get PR.

One of the requirements is a good record of tax payments.

As far as I can see not too many benifits at all

I evaluated the benefits and negatives some two years back and concluded that it wasn't worth the effort and expense.

Learning enough Thai to take the exam is problematic. Some have said the immigration officer might help you pass the language proficiency exam, but you still have to have some level of Thai.

More money is required to qualify.

A state ministry must approve your application and there is a quota. Something like 100 a year.

The only benefit I found was the not having to go in once a year to extend. I don't know if you have to report every 90 days if you are a PR.
