Over 50 arrested during raids on two karaoke outlets

Municipal police shuttered two karaoke outlets for operating despite a ban and arrested more than 50 people during crackdowns in the capital yesterday. Phnom Penh governor Khuong Sreng led the crackdowns in Steung Meanchey and Prampi Makara districts which began at about 1am.

The authorities first raided ANGEI Karaoke Restaurant located along Street 211 in Prampi Makara district’s Veal Vong commune and arrested three managers, including a Chinese man, and more than 10 karaoke girls. They were sent to the Phnom Penh Military Police Headquarters.

The raiding party then zoomed in on At Chuon located along Veng Sreng Road in Stung Meanchey 3 commune, Meanchey district. 35 people were arrested, including the owner, karaoke girls and guests. Colonel San Sokseiha, spokesman for Phnom Penh Municipal Police, told Khmer Times a total of 57 people were arrested during the raids.
