Sounds more like a farang urban legend. Like the ones about the inlaws keeping old bedridden falangs barely alive or imprisoned in their own homes but living on their pensions.

:o

Is it a myth ?

Actually I know that less dramatic incidents (like mia farang using farang purchased land as collateral on loans to finance gambling, non-income producing purchases, cash gifts to family, etc.) are rife and a few of these other types of Caterpillar stories may be true, but I figured that many farangs have to deal with enough incidents with locals in real life that might make them question their own self worth and I didn't want to add to that more than necessary online as well.

:D

You don't remember the case of that British copper who was kept and slowly poisoned while his wife lived off his pensions?

I think I missed that one. Like many locals, I focus on the newspaper articles that have pictures of dead bodies or lottery winners.

So what would you do if this happened to you.......my self i would just walk away and start a new life.

Easier said than done I think, can you imagine the pain and the fury!?

Good on him for paying her back but not a totally wise move burning down her house :D I bet the police aren't far behind him :o

Not necessarily, as I understand Thai land ownership, Thai's (or the wife in this case) can own the land, but a farang can still own the house built on it! If so, he has the legal right to do whatever he wants including burning it down :D

I can confirm that, it had widespread coverage in the British Press as well as the BKK Post.

If the land is leased to him.

correct, If he owns the house outright (not land) then its upto him what he does with it,cant see police to be involved,i would just say i am demolishing to build another one,off course nobody inside the house at the time,

personally good on him,i would do the same but only if it was in the sticks/village where no matter how nice that house you have built it has no resale value, in a city then i would not burn down , would just put it on the market very cheap.

True,

I have often wondered why people bothered to put a house in the sticks in a company name in case the marriage didn't work out.

Nobody's gonna buy it anyway, no matter who's name it's in or how much it cost to build.

Depends on the village, if lots of b-gals can always sell to another sponsor. Usual problem is that the builders and family rake off 50-90 percent of the money so the value of the house is much less than what the farang paid out! Just don't spend more than you can afford to lose. I have dropped 250k and 500k on land/houses in the past but got four and ten years of free sex out of it and when I finished with the women they thought they had won as they kept the land (in one case it had appreciated from 250k to 1.2 million as it was on suddenly valuable side of the village as it turned out flood free!).

Indeed Good on him! And good on the guy who smashed up the house after his wife was killed and her scumbag greedy ass relatives kicked him out.

My fiance' & I met with Sunbelt Asia a couple weeks back and they said if you buy the land out right the wife can sign for a "Userfraq?" I am butchering the spelling I know, but the gist was as long as you have that no one can sell the land out from under you (up to 1 Rai) and you have the right to live there for the rest of your life.

All depends on the circumstances, doesn't it?

Bought a house for my wife - expected it to be put in her name. Suggested we added the daughter's name as well, just in case.

Wife said no - and added my name to the (Thai) document. I cannot own the house, but if she dies I have the temporary ownership - must sell within one year. If anything should happen I will sell to my daughter (now approaching ten years old) and thus keep the status quo.

No other part of the family will get a look in. But then we live in Pattaya and the family are in Chaiyaphum and Nonthaburi. If we all lived close to each other there could be other dark influences brought to bear.

If the land is in your daughter's name then you will need to have a judge agree that it is in the child's best interest if you ever want to borrow money or sell.

I know someone that came here with 16 million baht. Lost half to his first thai wife but got to keep his kid. Then lost the rest trying to do business. Tried to sell the house to buy a smaller one and the judge would not let him. Now he and the kid are back in falang land while the house sits empty.

The guy found her in bed with another man. Destroying the house may seem like a natural response to the anger and rage he apparently felt, but how would he feel about his actions once he calmed down and thought about it more rationally? What would destroying the house accomplish, really?

Maybe he could use that energy to decide whether the relationship is worth salvaging. If he decides it is, will destroying the house make it any easier to work things out with her? If not, will destroying the house improve his chances for a better future without her?

Catharsis is a myth. There is no evidence to suggest that burning a house down would provide any relief from the unpleasant emotions he is experiencing following her infidelity.

Not sure what i would do either but i would probably go ballistic on them both. That is what the temporary insanity plea is for. Not sure if Thailand allows it.

The thai law does allow for the husband to sue his wife for adultery and also sue the man she was sleeping with.

A Lawyer told me he could kill them without being prosecuted for murder. Is that so?

Yeah, that would probably sell well... a house where you have to trespass everytime you want to go out or come home.

:o

A farang in Trang split with his wife.He stripped the house of everything and while crossing the street to his local bar was killed by a hit and run driver. No proof the ex did it .

This is the story from Stickman that many of you are mentioning

For Jiraporn

By Phil

Four years ago my Thai wife died of ovarian cancer. By the time she was accurately diagnosed, the cancer had moved into her lymphatic system. She died the day before my 65th birthday. During the course of a year she changed from a beautiful 38-year-old woman into a living skeleton. She was still beautiful and loving to the end of her short life. The cancer treatments left her bald and horribly sick and weak. During the last visit to the hospital the oncologist told me to take her home and prepare her and myself for the inevitable. No amount of preparation can steel your soul against the pain and loss that follows the death of your loved one. Jiraporn’s family was very attentive to both our needs. During the Songkla Festival the family decided to go on a trip to their relative’s Hamlet. Jiraporn’s Mom and I stayed behind to care for her. That night it was raining hard, blowing rain, driving up against the sides of our house making a constant sizzling sound like bacon in a frying pan.

There were a lot of people doubting this story though - i am sure the bloke was meant to follow up and did not - lots of discussions on other boards

I am pretty sure Stick even said in one thread he really did not know the truth.

If it's just a story or the truth what a great outcome, so many times you hear of the guy lossing 49% of his home only for the girl to get 100% of it. Theres a great saying, If you play with fire you get burnt!!! I'm just glad she lost her 51%, silly two timing bitch! Nice to see the courage of someone, if i can't have it the two timing **** Won't as i payed for it.

Can anyone see her side??? exactly!

Chris.

IMO, if you come home to find your wife balling another man, there's no relationship left to salvage. The housewarming was a bit extreme, there's a heavy penalty for arson but maybe the guy was making his point and burning his bridges - in this case, house. I'll assume this is a true case and when I read this stuff I just cannot fathom how people get into these situations. If you can't trust your woman alone, either be there full time or walk.

Finding your missus in bed with another guy, ouch, burning a house down and watching your money burn? I sympathise with the guys situation but personally I would enjoy walking away from the whole thing, setting fire to a few Tequilas and enjoying myself for a while.
