Embattled Thai health minister and deputy prime minister Anutin Charnvirakul hit back at suggestions that he has been dissing his esteemed leader Prayut Chan-o-cha.

The comments came after the PM himself said there was dissention in the ranks, reported Daily News.

Anutin was at pains to point out that he talks to the PM on the phone or in meetings almost every day.

He said he has never spoken behind the PM's back and has nothing but respect for him.

Asked by reporters how he felt that a petition for his removal as health minister had been signed by hundreds of thousands of people he said that Thailand has 40,000 doctors.

He said he didn't know who these were that were calling themselves "Mor Mai Thon" (doctors who can't take it any more).

Deflection attention from the criticism he said that today, Thursday, he'll be overseeing another 300 beds being made available at the national stadium field hospital in Bangkok.

That's how efficient we are at the MoPH, he noted, saying that by next week all the bed shortages in Bangkok would be sorted.

For now if there is an ICU need patients could be accommodated in the provinces, he said.

Thaivisa notes that many political commentators have suggested a frosty relationship between Prayuth and his deputy.

Though they also note that the PM needs his political support as leader of the Bhunjaithai party as well.

Prayut may have asked doctors to push a recall to  give him an excuse to remove Anutin's pandemic authority but keep him in the coalition.  All political like.

Until a few months ago, I was certain that Anutin was the tourism minister as he mostly spoke about reopening the country to tourists and came up with all manner of crackpot schemes that I'm sure we all remember. About the only times he ever mentioned health was in relation to tourism, so what kind of a health minister is he? He's obviously not interested in his brief, so if Prayut can't fire him for political reasons then please move him to the tourism ministry where he can do less harm.

He is a health minister with no medical background, training or knowledge. Its like putting a florist in charge of pie making and wonder why pies are coming out screwed up, undercooked and incomplete

He's  a war hero. Parachuted into Pattaya with SAS on Songkran Day single-handedly cleared out a military regalia shop thereby saving his colleagues from certain unnecessary expense. Administered medical grade ganja to the addicted before allowing himself to be treated. The accusations against him are politically motivated........This information was related to me by a nut in the ministry....

He should wear military helmet next time, too. Will look even more brutal!

General of roadworks...

I'd be glad to see this racist and incompetent fool gone. But as it goes, his replacement will be no better, I'm certain.

What do you mean?

Cant you see all those little pips above his pocket?

Hes clearly the best bus driver for the job.

As soon as Anutin tried to start pushing S### uphill, his days started to be numbered within the Government.

I'm sure they will be available in a few months time once the first world has exhausted it's need for them.

He might well say that, but his comments show he has zero respect bordering on hatred of all foreigners ( those that latterly provided over 20% of GDP ). But his actions to date has done nothing to change most foreigners minds. Who Thailand wants back !

Money talks, and he has billions and was possibly seen as one who could bring more money to the trough of brown envelopes.  On top of that the man is a confirmed liar, with a hatred of foreigners, or maybe that should be distaste, so he is immediately qualified....

Of course you haven’t Mr A. None of think you have, you paragon of virtue that you are.
