Government to work with private sector on vaccine rollout - target to open country next year

Channel 7 reported that the Thai government would be working with principal players in the private sector to help deliver the vaccine rollout.

On board are groups such as the Federation of Thai Industries, The Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Thai Bankers Association.

Groups such as these will be working in four key areas including vaccine procurement, public relations, places where vaccine can be administered and use of tech.

Industrial estates, import export companies, malls and gas stations will all be able to play a vital role.

The aim is to vaccinate 50 million people in Thailand or a target of 70% by the end of the year.

This will enable the country to be opened up by the start of next year.

Bangkok will pilot the mass rollout at 14 locations for 20,000 people a day starting in June.

The government is in the process of procuring 100 million doses of vaccine, said the media.

Migrant workers will be part of the rollout.

  • The reason they cant/wont proper start a vaccine program they are trying to select which big businesses are to profit and how the brown envelpes distribution process should proceed

Hopefully they can open the country up next year. Some of us would like to return home for a visit to see families but do not wish to jump through the hoops and clear the hurdles of quarantine before

There are many Thais in the same situation, including people who want to return but cannot. Families of these people in Thailand or elsewhere in the world are missing each other just as you and others are. Hoops and quarantine are easy.

Didn't they just announce there was no need for the private sector to involve themselves with procurement?

Exactly! And these talks about 'opening next year' are just fairy tales. It will be at least 2023 or later, or maybe (and hopefully) after this government will be down. Anyway, all businesses will be dead by this time with millions of homeless. But who cares?

I guess that's the unrealistic 1st October reopening gone? At the moment there seems to be a major "announcement" every few hours with goal posts moving in all directions. Or is that just my imagination?

Regardless of the above, and regardless of how they do it (brown envelopes alluded to above) can they please please pleeeease get on with it. Surprise me, make me happy and somehow rapidly purchase and roll out the vaccines. I am sure you have the means.....Thailand as a country is pretty devastated on the whole, as are huge numbers of the population. Use your salaried positions and use everything within you to show me what you can do. No more extended glorifying meetings. Just get on with it like other countries are. Please.

you better tell tat to revise their tourist numbers there is no way they are going to get the numbers they predicted

Better tell those 6 million Brits who according to your tourism agency had already packed their bags and were ready to go that they'll just have to wait a little longer.

I also guess that this new situation will somewhat impact the tourism and sports minister's rater hasty announcement that Thailand is going to "welcome 35 million foreign visitors within this year".

Note for the future:

HOLD announcing your re-opening plans until you have actually tackled the pandemic. And then - and only THEN - will you start making plans and announce them too. That way you will save yourself the constant embarrassment of having to revise your re-opening dates. It's a big loss of face, you know?

Besides... 6 million Brits will be enormously grateful towards you because you spare them from having to pack and unpack again and again.

Partly true, but there's also a narrative to be maintained which takes precedence over everything else, including profits.

Yes...I am now totally lost is this old news or bang up to date?

Is that the Lord Protector/He-Man Master of the Universe narrative or the Shell game/Judo flip narrative.

what is the use to vaccinate personnel working in a malll. Every body has to get vaccinated. If the people in the mall are vaccinated than I am still in danger for other visitors of the mall who are not vaccinated ...and that are probably more people than the people working in the mall. Besides that is the private sector willing to help the Government , as Prayuth blocked the buying of vaccines by the private sector

Edited by ikke1959

In a recent article BDMS group indicated that they're pleading with the government to allow them to purchase vaccines using their long standing relationships with vaccine manufacturers.

Due to WHO protocols they are unable to do so without a government signature.

But I guess expediting that process would unnecessarilly cut into Siam Bioscience profits, and highlight what a failure the government vaccine program is.

Not let's see. Ist it was June, then July , then October, Now next year. Conclusive proof that they do not have a handle of what the vaccination roll-outs  entail and the length of time it will take at the current rate of confusion. I hope the Czar was on board with this prediction or was it something picked up from the graffiti on toilet walls and they believed it ?????????

I wish people would not refer to him as a clown.

Clowns are professional entertainers who actually know their profession, which is to entertain people and make them laugh and enjoy themselves.

Even the place he came from don't want their village back.

And the 3 Billion Chinese, 126 Million from Finland, 1,2 Billion from the States.

All sitting on their luggages, ready to depart.

Thankfully Phuket is absolutely going ahead 1st July ????

For the love of God , just give me an end date to all this madness. If we can get back to normal in 8 months , then fine, but this endless grind of unknowing is soul destroying.

Hmm private hospitals must have done something very bad not to be included. Maybe spoke "truth to power"?

I always look first to my bank if I become ill. Who needs doctors and such?

If you don't like whatever crazy current announcement comes out, just wait a short while and some contradictory announcement should be forthcoming.

February 31, 2146?

no country in the world will open in this time frame, except small countries like Turkey, Maldives and few others, who started vaccinations long time ago

Yes, only yesterday in fact !

That's a pretty quick turnaround, I can only imagine some fairly strong push back behind the scenes !

I guess they can send all the sand they are keeping in boxes over to Pattaya for the next time it rains.

Love it when they push back.

The narrative establishes a monopoly ( except for a little tinkering around the edges for a few hundred thousand doses) so I suggest that profit is very much front and centre!

The narrative is, however rather failing to "gain traction" amongst a  very significant  portion (younger) of the population!

I notice that "migrant workers" will be part of the rollout.

I do spend 95% of every day of every week, plague or no plague, in my library working on my cognitive processes. Will that count?

So July 2021  is out of the window Mr Pipat, you can go on a vacation of your own now...

Is that the Turkey with the 85 million population?

The one that is 50% larger than Thailand in area ?
