webfact
By Woraprat Lerpaisal BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai embassy in New Delhi is advising Thai people to leave India, due to its escalating COVID-19 crisis. The embassy said Thais who do not need to stay in India should register to return home on repatriation flights, set for Saturday from Chennai and from New Delhi on 15 May. Those who need to return urgently can register for repatriation on a special flight, delivering donations from Thailand to New Delhi, on Wednesday. The Thai embassy said COVID-19 had been spreading fast in India since mid-April and many medical facilities are overwhelmed. India has been hitting new highs almost every day for new infections and deaths, as the virus crisis piles pressure onto the country’s already overstretched medical infrastructure. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-05-05 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

internationalism
the last saturday, and saturday before that, the empty airbus 240 belonging to thai army took just a handful of sick thai embassy employees back to thailand. I think 4 passengers on each flight. Nobody else was allowed, those flights were not advertised
Danderman123
There are two distinct issues concerning India: the most obvious being the risk of being infected, but the second being the risk of collapse of authority. Not to mention the economy. India is the classic case of the government being unable and unwilling to deal with the virus and resorting to a herd immunity strategy, just letting people die in the process. "Let it rip", so to speak. Our anti-lockdown friends would be well advised to pay attention to what is happening in India. Your idea of 'herd immunity' is incorrect.

There are 2 kinds of herd immunity, one is acquired via vaccination, the other is natural, ie the Darwinian approach. Which would you prefer? ThailandRyan
So they will either be repatriated and into quarantine they will go, or they will find a way through Myanmar and into Thailand by crossing a natural border to return home illegally and bring the double variant with them and ensuring the cases grow like in India. Myanmar is already seeing a rise in cases, but this anecdotal evidence from family inside of Myanmar by a Sat Phone we bought them since the government has pretty much cut of the internet and transmission towers. ExpatOilWorker
Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore and Indonesia have detected cases. Surely Myanmar also have some cases so it is just a matter of time before it arrives here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lineage_B.1.617
