Crime Father Shoots at Son, Critically Injures Friend in Violent Family Dispute

A violent family altercation escalated into a near-fatal incident when a father opened fire on his son, but instead critically wounded the son’s friend who tried to intervene. Police and emergency responders were called to a residence in Ban Nong Kung, Hang Hong Subdistrict, Mueang Sakon Nakhon District at around 19:20 on 5 July, following reports of a shooting involving two men. At the scene, officers discovered two injured individuals lying outside the house. Mr Rungreung, also known as “Odd” 33, had suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh that severed a major artery. He was unconscious and in critical condition. The second man, Mr Kamphian 66, had sustained severe injuries from a machete attack, including lacerations to the face and head and two broken arms. Both men were treated at the scene by the Rattana Katanyu Foundation and later transferred to Sakon Nakhon General Hospital. Mr Rungreung remains unconscious. Investigators recovered a homemade long gun and a machete at the scene. According to Ms Janejira, the homeowner’s wife who witnessed the event, the assailant was Mr Kamphian, father of 27-year-old Mr Apisit, known as “Nick”. The father allegedly stormed the house with a rifle, aiming to shoot his son following a long-standing dispute. However, the shot missed and struck Mr Rungreung, who attempted to defuse the confrontation. After the shooting, Mr Kamphian reportedly drew a machete and continued the attack, attempting to strike his son. In the ensuing struggle, Nick managed to wrestle the weapon from his father and used it against him, causing serious injuries before fleeing the scene. Ms Janejira said the father and son had been arguing since the afternoon, though the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear. Local village headwoman Mrs Bangon Korchart confirmed that Mr Kamphian had previously asked for help evicting his son from the family home, citing frequent quarrels and claiming his son was unemployed and troublesome. Police have begun collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses, but further questioning of those involved will be delayed until their medical conditions improve. Authorities are also working to locate and question Mr Apisit. The precise charges will depend on the outcome of the investigation and the evidence gathered. Community South Korean Man 70, Dies After Plunge from Jomtien Hotel
Picture courtesy of SiamChon. A 70-year-old South Korean man was found dead late on the night of 6 July, after falling from a hotel building in the Jomtien Beach area. The incident occurred at approximately 22:30, near Soi 14/1, just off the Beach Road. Emergency services were called to the scene after hotel security staff discovered the man’s lifeless body lying on the ground beside the hotel. According to initial reports, the man was found wearing only casual clothing, with a pair of shoes, a waist bag and a hat lying nearby. The body showed no physical signs of a struggle, but authorities believe the fall was from a significant height. Investigations revealed that the man had been staying alone in a room on the fifth floor of the hotel since the end of June. A security guard reported hearing a loud noise moments before the body was discovered, describing it as a “heavy thud” consistent with something falling from above. Upon checking the area, the guard found the man unresponsive on the ground. While initial findings suggest that the man may have fallen from the hotel’s rooftop, investigators have not ruled out other possibilities. Pattaya police confirmed that no hypothesis, including suicide, accident or foul play, has been excluded at this stage. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the hotel and surrounding area to establish a timeline of events. The South Korean Embassy in Bangkok has been notified and officials are coordinating with authorities to inform the man’s family and provide consular support. The body was transferred to a local hospital for autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.
