Residents of Bangkok will be able to make appointments for their COVID-19 jabs starting this Thursday on an online portal, or at convenience stores. The campaign run by Bangkok City Hall gives residents more access to the vaccines, in addition to the government’s main inoculation program.

 

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has launched its own vaccination program for residents, using vaccines allocated by the government, while allowing members of the public who are not on the priority list to get their jabs earlier.

 

From 27th May, residents of Bangkok aged 18-59 years old without chronic illnesses can book their vaccination appointments starting on 7th June, using the government’s app, on the City Hall website, or in person at a convenience store.

Please correct me if I am wrong. The tan lines which far outweigh the greens indicate clusters not under control, i.e still out of control. Those clusters are predominately Bangkok and surrounding areas. So if a foreign government was looking at the risk of allowing it's nationals to fly into certain areas and had access to that illustration, then as there are  a significant number of out of control areas,  perhaps it would raise alarm bells for those governments to allow their nationals to fly into designated zones where the virus is out of control ?

COVID-19: Provisional release on the cards for some inmates in Thailand amid overcrowding

 

BANGKOK: Some inmates in Thailand could soon get a provisional release as the government plans to reduce overcrowding in prisons in its fight against COVID-19.

 

A new wave of outbreak is sweeping through detention facilities nationwide. More than 100,000 people have been infected in Thailand since April, including some 18,000 prisoners.

 

The transmission of the virus among inmates has raised concerns over prison capacity. Data from the Corrections Department showed more than 311,000 inmates are incarcerated in 143 correctional facilities nationwide.

If Thailand is anything like the UK then they are paying about £4 for AZ, and £15 and £28 for Prizer and Moderna per dose. So, your 'probably' comment is related to cost I would guess.

But.....but.....I thought it was under control.

Despite the record 41 new COVID deaths reported in Thailand on Wednesday, the country's reported number of new general population cases (1,976, excluding prison cases) dropped to its lowest level in the past week since May 20. Thus far, though, the day to day reporting hasn't indicated any consistent, ongoing upward or downward case trend in recent days.

 

In the chart below, the blue bars show self-referred COVID cases, the yellow bars cases found via outreach testing, and the gray bars prison cases. The prison cases often have been reported in bulk bunches, and not necessarily when those cases were actually first identified.

Reading the posting on the Facebook page it appears it is only for Thai Residents

 

"Alternatively, Bangkok residents can opt to make their vaccination appointments at a convenience store, namely any 7-Eleven, Family Mart, Tops Daily, or mini Big C, by presenting their national ID card"

 

To book an appointment, Bangkok residents who have participated in any of the government’s financial aid or tourism promotion campaigns which use the Pao Tang app as the main portal, can simply make their appointment using the app.

Bangkok residents who have never participated in the government’s campaigns, or who have already deleted the Pao Tang app, can register and make an appointment on the City Hall’s inoculation campaign website.

What are you on about.  There are no venues open like you have stated, no night clubs or fighting stadiums, unless your underground in a bunker you might know this.

You can be sure that they are doing the minimum of testing as testing costs money and they rather spend it on subs. 

Thailand seems to have found THE precise tipping point where the impact of restrictions put in place is sufficient to control the virus at its current daily case count range, but not sufficient enough to reduce the daily case count.

 

It’s an interesting philosophical question whether the social impact of more restrictions is worth it, if it results in a reducing daily case count. Or, whether continuing on the current level of restrictions for an extended period of time, does as much damage as increased restrictions, because of the extended time scale. Sort of like death by a stab wound, or by a thousand cuts.

 

no right answer of course, both have merits and drawbacks and without access to data and modeling of various scenarios, it’s all a shot in the dark.

 

I suspect the government’s strategy is steady as she goes and wait for the vaccines as a savior. Not an unrealistic strategy if they can get the vaccination thing sorted out from its current mish mash of implementation and vaccine scarcity.
 

One caveat, vaccinate 70% of the population (no easy task) and the magical herd immunity is not a silver bullet. 30% of the population is still a lot of people and if international travel opens up, that’s a lot more people going to and fro. 
 

of course if the daily case count numbers are being fudged then it’s different.

Once the ribbon cutting is over and vaccination centers are pumping out local made AstraZenica jabs, I am hoping there will be a grey market for paying customers getting Moderna.

It’s another example of the overall vaccination strategy being dissipated. Now they very specifically target one huge non risk group (if you can call it targeting), basically every adult who isn’t over 60. To be honest, it smacks of panic. 
 

if they are confident that they have high coverage in the over 60 space, the next sensible thing would be to move to the next highest risk group, 50 to 60 years. And then so on down the age ladder.
 

I suppose you could argue that if things are really dire then it’s a good idea to just get jabs into arms, any arms. On the other hand, if things are really dire, then shouldn’t you first focus on those who are most likely to suffer severe health issues?

 

I’ve posted before, it seems to me that the “magical” 70% vaccinated figure seems to have overtaken basic health strategies and hence anybody and everybody who is an adult, is eligible to get a jab. 
 

targeting everybody like this will just make vaccine shortages even worse.

Province by province new COVID case reports from Wednesday, along with the comparable info from Tuesday. Bangkok, Phetchaburi and Nonthaburi provinces reported the highest numbers of new cases on Wednesday. If a province is not listed, that means it didn't have any new cases for the day.

How can that prove anything with the low incidence of Covid-19 on Phuket anyway?

I live on Phuket and have not caught Covid-19 despite not being vaccinated ....

I have to agree that night clubs and fighting stadiums are closed, but if you want to claim that there aren't many bars and other entertainment venues open, behind closed doors,  then you should change glasses.
