Thailand reports 2,455 COVID-19 cases, 41 more deaths

Another interesting comparison on Thailands current death from covid trend is with the UK. The UK is currently getting around 2,400 +/- positive cases daily so very similar to Thailand's community spread. However the UK death rate is lower. No doubt this is due it its vaccine coverage being far better and its policy of giving priority to its elderly and vulnerable.

Not to worry Mr Anutin says there's enough vaccine for everyone to have 3 shots if necessary, oh and the earth is flat and the moon is made of cheese.

41 fatalities is a new high, and is a worry as to what's to come as deaths lag cases.  The higher numbers we have of cases and on life support make this a grim prospect.  Stay safe, and maybe there wi

Such upward and downward swings in COVID case reporting have been commonplace in Thailand for reasons that aren't clear.

Nothing that involves the powers that be, which is everything, is ever clear here.

To paraphrase Churchill, it's a coverup, wrapped in a tall story, inside a brown envelope.

The Cabinet has approved 311.6 million baht, from the central fund of the 2021 budget, to enable the Corrections Department to combat the COVID-19 outbreak in prisons and detention centers throughout the country.

Government spokesman, Anucha Burapachaisri, said the amount will be used to buy 100,000 sets of RT PCR COVID-19 test kits, build two field hospitals for critical patients at prisons in Greater Bangkok, build 10 field hospitals for other prisons and detention centers, build and improve quarantine sections at 65 prisons and detention centers throughout the country and buy protective gear for prisons and detention centers.

He said the Corrections Department will also request the antiviral Favipiravir drug from the Ministry of Public Health.

So money has obviously been an issue in testing the rest of Thailand's prisons, who knows how many infected there really are and an extra 100,000 tests kits, hardly enough is it?

that amount would only last 1 day if they reached out and tested.

With a population of 311000 in prisons that equates to 1000B a prisoner. See how far that goes

How can that prove anything with the low incidence of Covid-19 on Phuket anyway?

I live on Phuket and have not caught Covid-19 despite not being vaccinated ....

I think it’s part of the PR strategy to help convince people to take the vaccine. The survey is statistically nonsense.

TWO field hospitals for the critically sick? How many critically ill prisoners are there to require such dedicated hospitals?

Not to mention the other ten field hospitals, it looks like they are settling in for the long haul and feel the situation will get much worse or at the very least an admission that it's not under control.

Pattaya City to propose “Pattaya Move On” tourism scheme to Thai Covid Center to welcome vaccinated foreigners without quarantine by October

Pattaya City authorities, along with Pattaya’s Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Pattaya business sector, is planning to propose to the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, or CCSA, a “Pattaya Move On” tourism scheme to welcome vaccinated foreign tourists to the city without quarantine in the 4th quarter of 2021.

The thing is, number of deaths is a lagging indicator. The figure I've seen used is that it's reflective of what conditions were 3 weeks ago more or less. The numbers do show a sharp increase not so long ago but that is at last partially a statistical artefact due to the failure to count cases in prisons.

Here's a look at a prison cases-removed chart of local cases lately... Hard to see much of a trend line up or down here in the overall sense of things, except for the last four days downward...

The latest May 26 general population number is almost identical to the May 20 tally. Be interesting to see what happens with that in the next couple days.

"Single heighest", "daily record", "death", stop this <deleted> madness.

Even if they don't test alot, the numbers are low for Thailand, where many people are living together in the same house.

Well, the offer for foreign nationals to pre-register at Vimut Hospital in BKK for the supposed June 7 launch of the government's vaccination program for foreign nationals is off to a flying start....  ????

Note the update on Vimut Hospital's Facebook page today, just four days after they first posted the offer to begin pre-registering...

Still haven't received any response from them for the info I submitted online on Sunday, the day after they first posted the offer above. They told one person that people should expect to receive some SMS confirmation in four or so days...which in my case would be tomorrow.

Wonder if they too had their expected/promised supply of vaccines yanked?

And, still public crickets from the Bangrak Vaccination and Health Center...

+1 for me as well, still waiting after registering just after you did.

The prison infections were/are a disaster waiting to happen given the overcrowding, a blind man could see that.

The miracle is that things are not a lot worse.

how are they a disaster for the general public ?

prisoners, maybe

If they keep them inside the prison, with no visitors, then no problem for the public

lots of infections, but how many prisoners are dying of Covid ?

Im sure if you tested for other things, aids, flu, etc, you would get many positive tests but not corresponding deaths

So you think the wardens, health workers that come into contact with the prisoners remain permanently in side the prison also  ?

Well, given that field hospitals are quarantine detention centers for everyone who tests positive, I can understand that a LOT of beds are required, simply because there are a lot of cases.

but there isn’t supposed to be THAT many people who are critically ill in the prisons, at least I am not aware that it’s been reported as such. But two dedicated field hospitals for the critically ill suggests that there are more than a few.

I agree with you though, they are digging in and intend to ride it out till the vaccines save the day.

so you think they just wander around without PPE , then go outside and with their families , given the infections ?

Are they not tested , like hospital staff, then made to wear PPE ?

Any numbers of inmates that have died from Covid yet ?

Of course there have been death of an inmate, don't you bother to read the reports ? What's this testing thing you are imagining as a routine action ? Also if you read the reports you will see that the prison authorities declared it was almost impossible to adopt preventive measures inside prisons. You really need to catch up a bit.

ahh, so your saying that orison i=officers and health workers are allowed to leave the prison and go home, shopping etc, without any testing ?

Im trying to catch up with all the <deleted>, but it just keeps getting deeper

any numbers on the prison deaths from the Covid , compared to the annual average deaths of inmates  ?

23 minutes ago, Joinaman said:

so 863 deaths with Covid, in 17 months, out of 68 million ?

thats still way less than 2 weeks road deaths

Wonder how many ex pats have died from this Covid, compared to other deaths ?

How many deaths do you think there would have been if no measures had been put in place from the start last year?

Maybe if you do some research you could find them perhaps, although I very much doubt if inmates deaths and their causes would have much veracity with this regime

50??

perhaps you could tell us the true number if no measures had been in place ?

Or are you going to guess, just like everyone else, ?

Still more chance of dying going to the shops than from the virus  !

No need to guess, plenty of models based on RO numbers to predict the likely deaths with no measures in place, seek and you will find or keep your blinkers on mask off and head to the shops

ahh, the models !!

I thought these "models" predicted thousands of deaths in Thailand, or were the posters on here wrong again ?

No worries going to shops, and without a mask, no infections where i live, no deaths from the covid, and nobody knows anybody who has either. Seems to quite a few who have died or hospitalized from the flu and pneumonia  virus though
